Job Title
Under general supervision provides leadership and direction of subordinate crew members in the maintenance of City Public Grounds. Participates in construction, repair, and maintenance activities.
Minimum Training and ExperienceEducation:
High school diploma or GED
Experience:
Three (3) years of progressive relevant experience in grounds maintenance, landscape installation or construction, or special event coordination
Certifications:
Valid driver's license at hire
Preferred:
Associates degree in grounds maintenance related field
Note:
The City retains the right to determine equivalencies. Any certifications not possessed at hire, must be obtained before the employee is removed from probation in order to continue employment with the City.
Must be physically able to operate a rubber tire backhoe, front end loader, tractor, roller, dump truck and grade; utilizes tools such as saws, drills, hammer, mowing and trenching tools, and hand tools. Must be able to exert in excess of one hundred pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of fifty pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of twenty pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
Must be able to lift and/or carry weights of ten to one hundred pounds.
Is responsible for coordinating and overseeing the daily operations of facility maintenance and custodial services and ensures that all facility amenities are clean, safe, functional, and maintained to established standards.
Performs and assists in supervision of Maintenance on all Parks and Rec. buildings regarding Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Roofs, etc.
Coordinates non-routine work requirements to make efficient use of all available resources. Understands Facility Maintenance and Custodial priorities to ensure the highest are addressed if/when demand is greater than available resources.
Conveys City and Department standards and verifies they have been met. Conducts routine checks of buildings, vehicles and equipment for which the Division is responsible. Plans and implements solutions to complications and unmet expectations.
Ensures routine inspections and maintenance of facilities are carried out as scheduled and that unsafe or substandard conditions are remedied in a timely fashion. Identifies safety hazards and maintenance issues and reports the same to Facilities Maintenance Division and/or Supervisor
Promotes efficiency in scheduling and implementation of such schedule for custodial staff.
Conducts and facilitates regular crew meetings to identify, understand, and address specific needs of subordinate custodians with regard to supplies, facility events, leave requirements and requests, and other general information exchange.
Supports training and event activities planned and organized by other Departments in their respective facilities. Accepts other duties as assigned by Public Grounds Managers.
Additional Training andExperience of Specific Assignment
- Criminal Justice Information Services Certification (CJIS) within 2 months of hire
Preferred:
- Management Training and Experience are Preferred
- Minimum 5 yrs experience in MEP disciplines and/or public facility maintenance.
