First Church in North Platte is seeking a dependable, self‑motivated Custodian / Facility Maintenance team member to care for our church facilities and grounds. This full‑time, hourly role is ideal for someone who takes pride in creating welcoming, well‑maintained spaces where ministry can flourish. Through your work behind the scenes, you’ll help provide an environment where leaders make and grow disciples of Jesus Christ.
WhatYou’ll Do
As our Custodian / Facility Maintenance team member, you’ll play an essential role in supporting the daily life and ministry of our church. Your responsibilities will include:
- Facility Care:
Clean and maintain church building, including floors, carpets, restrooms, windows, furniture, and common areas to ensure a welcoming environment. - Routine Maintenance:
Perform general maintenance tasks involving painting, minor carpentry, plumbing, electrical work, and mechanical repairs to keep our facilities in excellent condition. - Grounds & Safety:
Help maintain the church grounds by picking up litter, overseeing lawn care and snow removal (provided by paid contractors), minor snow removal, salting icy areas, and addressing safety concerns as they arise. - Event Support:
Set up and take down tables, chairs, and equipment for worship services, meetings, and special events. - Supplies & Operations:
Monitor custodial inventory, order and organize supplies, open and secure the building as assigned, and maintain custodial records.
This position is central to ensuring that First Church remains a safe, clean, and welcoming place where people can gather, worship, and grow in their faith.
What We’re Looking For- Experience in custodial services, facility maintenance, or a related field
- Working knowledge of carpentry, plumbing, painting, and general building maintenance
- Familiarity with cleaning procedures, equipment, and the safe use of cleaning products
- Ability to work independently, prioritize responsibilities, and follow both written and verbal instructions
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with staff, volunteers, congregation members, and the public
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds, move equipment weighing up to 150 pounds, and perform physical tasks including walking, climbing, kneeling, stooping, and standing for extended periods
- Will need a valid driver’s license and must have or obtain Safe Gatherings Certification
- Commitment to conducting oneself in a manner consistent with Christian values
Preferred

Prior experience in church, school, or commercial facility maintenance.
