Job Description
NPPSD seeks either a fulltime Custodian to cover Lincoln Elementary (.05) and Lake Elementary (.05)
ORtwo part-time employees. The Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, sanitary, and attractive learning and working environment for students, staff, and visitors of North Platte Public Schools. The position performs routine cleaning, sanitation, building maintenance, grounds-related duties, and other custodial responsibilities necessary to support the effective operation of the school. The Custodian is expected to demonstrate reliability, initiative, attention to detail, professionalism, and a commitment to providing a safe and welcoming environment for the school community.
Cleaning and Sanitation
- Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, cafeterias, gymnasiums, common areas, and other assigned areas.
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and maintain floors and other surfaces.
- Clean windows, doors, walls, fixtures, furniture, and other building surfaces.
- Empty waste and recycling containers and properly dispose of materials.
- Clean and sanitize restrooms and replenish paper products, soap, and other supplies.
- Maintain appropriate cleanliness and sanitation standards throughout the assigned building.
- Respond promptly to spills, accidents, and other situations requiring immediate cleaning.
- Perform additional cleaning and sanitation duties during school breaks and as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Previous custodial, maintenance, commercial cleaning, or related experience preferred but not required.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to operate custodial equipment safely or willingness to learn.
- Ability to communicate effectively and professionally.
- Demonstrated reliability, punctuality, and dependability.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to interact appropriately with students, staff, and the public.
The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, including:
- Standing and walking for extended periods.
- Bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, and climbing stairs.
- Repetitively pushing and pulling custodial equipment.
- Lifting and carrying supplies, equipment, and materials.
- Moving furniture and other objects as required.
- Operating cleaning and maintenance equipment.
- Working in areas that may include dust, cleaning chemicals, noise, temperature variations, and other normal custodial conditions.
- Performing occasional strenuous physical activity associated with cleaning, snow removal, moving equipment, or responding to building needs.
- Work may occur during school hours, evenings, early mornings, weekends, holidays, and school breaks depending upon the assigned position and building needs.
- Full-time and part-time schedules may vary by building and operational requirements.
- The employee may be required to work independently for extended periods.
- Occasional exposure to cleaning chemicals, dust, bodily fluids, outdoor weather conditions, and other conditions normally associated with custodial work may occur.
- Schedule flexibility may be required to support school activities, events, emergencies, or changing building needs.
- Maintains assigned areas in a clean, safe, and sanitary condition.
- Reports to work consistently and on time.
- Completes assigned responsibilities efficiently and thoroughly.
- Uses equipment, chemicals, and supplies safely and appropriately.
- Responds promptly to building and custodial needs.
- Demonstrates a positive and professional attitude.
- Works cooperatively with administrators, staff, students, and other District employees.
