Qualifications
  • Certification of good health signed by a licensed physician.
  • A willingness to assist supervisors in attaining the goals for cleanliness of a building.
  • Demonstrated aptitude for successful fulfillment of assigned performance responsibilities.
  • Other qualifications may be added or modified by the Superintendent.
Performance Responsibilities
  • Perform custodial functions – keep building, sidewalks, driveways, play areas, and premises neat and clean as assigned.
  • Items for cleaning include windows, chairs, desks, tables, chalkboards, walls, signs, building face, radiators, waste containers, floors, paper dispensers, sinks, toilets, urinals, corridors, classroom floors, fixtures, drinking fountains, counters, light fixtures, mirrors, rugs, doors, furniture, and equipment according to schedule.
  • Perform any and all activities related to the cleaning of the buildings, including sweeping, dusting, mopping, washing, vacuuming, treating, spraying, removing, collecting, applying, and other necessary activities following schedule.
  • Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the Principal or Facilities Manager.
  • Perform grounds‑keeping chores as necessary to maintain the school grounds safe and attractive, including sweeping, raking, lawn mowing, washing, removing, collecting, and other necessary activities.
  • Assume responsibility for the general security of the building: opening and closing each school day, ensuring doors and windows are secure, verifying lights are off and exit doors are open, and checking panic bolts.
  • Assist in checking the general fire safety of the building; know the alarm system and help conduct an annual check of fire equipment.
  • Maintain awareness of all water shut‑offs and electrical panels in case of emergency.
  • Perform snow removal tasks: shovel, plow if trained and requested, and/or sand walkways, driveways, parking areas and steps; operate snow removal equipment as trained.
  • Report major repairs or damage to Principal and/or Facilities Manager and record in the School Dude system.
  • Respond to emergency situations in school buildings.
  • Remain on premises during school hours and during authorized non‑school hours as required.
  • Keep inventory of custodial supplies, equipment, and fuel; order replacements in advance.
  • Maintain inventory of school supplies if requested.
  • Comply with local laws and procedures for storage and disposal of trash, rubbish, and waste.
  • Provide input to budget, short‑ and long‑term, as requested.
  • Perform other custodial functions as assigned or needed.
  • Accept additional assignments from Facilities Manager, Building Principal, or Superintendent as deemed appropriate.
