Maintenance & Janitorial Technician

North Smithfield, RI I Full-Time I $24.00-$27.00 per hour

Wright’s Dairy Farm & Bakery is seeking a dependable, hands-on Maintenance & Janitorial Technician to help keep our facilities, equipment, shared spaces, and grounds clean, safe, organized, and operating properly.

This is not strictly a cleaning position. The role combines commercial cleaning and sanitation with routine facility maintenance, minor repairs, groundskeeping, shipping and receiving support, vendor coordination, and emergency response. You will work throughout our bakery, creamery, retail store, food-production areas, storage spaces, utility rooms, and outdoor property.

The ideal candidate takes initiative, notices issues before they become larger problems, and is comfortable working independently while supporting multiple departments.

What You’ll Do Cleaning and Facility Care
  • Clean and sanitize restrooms, staff areas, public spaces, production areas, retail floors, and cooler floors.
  • Mop floors, sanitize high-touch surfaces, empty trash and recycling, and assist with deep-cleaning projects.
  • Maintain soap, sanitizer, cleaning supplies, light bulbs, batteries, and other facility supplies.
  • Keep receiving, storage, waste, and back-of-house areas clean and organized.
  • Follow chemical-labeling, storage, PPE, and Safety Data Sheet requirements.
Maintenance and Repairs
  • Inspect facilities and equipment for maintenance needs and safety concerns.
  • Complete basic repairs involving lights, doors, fixtures, plumbing hardware, filters, vents, and general facility equipment.
  • Maintain and test the emergency backup generator.
  • Keep tools, maintenance equipment, gas cans, and the Gator utility vehicle clean, fueled, organized, and in safe working condition.
  • Respond promptly to maintenance concerns and follow through until issues are resolved.
  • Maintain basic repair, service, and maintenance records.
Grounds and Seasonal Work
  • Keep entrances, walkways, loading areas, and outdoor spaces safe and accessible.
  • Shovel, snow blow, and salt walkways during winter weather.
  • Assist with planters, picnic tables, trash cans, leaves, landscaping, and general property upkeep.
  • Coordinate with landscaping or snow-removal vendors when needed.
Vendors, Deliveries, and Waste Management
  • Coordinate with vendors providing HVAC, refrigeration, pest control, landscaping, snow removal, waste, and sanitation services.
  • Help ensure contractors follow facility safety and sanitation requirements.
  • Coordinate trash and recycling pickups and maintain waste collection areas.
  • Unload and move deliveries using a pallet jack or forklift.
  • Distribute packages and help manage outgoing shipments or returns.
What We’re Looking For
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
  • Two or more years of maintenance, facilities, janitorial, property-care, or related experience preferred.
  • Experience completing basic facility repairs and troubleshooting maintenance concerns.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Forklift certification or willingness to complete company-provided training.
  • OSHA or other workplace safety training is preferred but not required.
  • Basic computer and email skills.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities and work independently.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to cleanliness and safety.
  • Clear communication and professional follow-through.
Schedule

This position generally works Monday through Friday, approximately 35-40 hours per week. Start times may vary based on business needs but are typically around 7:00 or 8:00 a.m. Occasional early-morning, evening, weekend, or holiday work may be required during severe weather, equipment failures, urgent repairs, major deliveries, or other critical operational needs.

Physical and Work Requirements

This is an active, hands-on position. Candidates must be able to:

  • Regularly stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb stairs or ladders.
  • Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds independently and occasionally more with assistance or equipment.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in changing temperatures and weather conditions.
