Position: Maintenance Working Foreman

Maintenance Working Foreman (2600032P)

The Department of Mental Health (DMH) seeks a Maintenance Working Foreman to assist the Property Manager in maintaining operations of DMH properties and overseeing maintenance and repair activities.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Inspect property daily and report safety hazards or needed repairs to the Property Manager.
  • Assist or perform regular maintenance or repairs to the building and related structures such as painting, masonry or woodworking.
  • Assist with servicing and replacing minor plumbing fixtures (faucets, washers, flushometers, valves).
  • Support hazardous weather responses, flooding, freezing temperatures, snow removal and walkway sanding.
  • Assist with building grounds landscaping, including moving lawns and planting flowers.
  • Observe progress of work, evaluate workmanship, ensure compliance with standards and report progress to the Property Manager.
  • Accompany vendors providing services such as pest control and property inspections.
  • Oversee vehicle fleet maintenance schedule to ensure vehicles are in good working order.
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of equipment, materials, safety practices and procedures used in building maintenance and repairs.
  • Familiarity with hand‑held power tools and small hand tools.
  • Ability to stand for long periods and lift and carry heavy objects with sufficient physical stamina and endurance.
  • Valid driver’s license to operate a motor vehicle and willingness to travel for job‑related purposes.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 2‑3 years of experience in Property Management.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including sensitivity and respect for diverse populations.
  • Commitment to serving a diverse population with cultural competence.
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and exercise sound judgment.
  • Multilingual fluency is an advantage.
Work Schedule and Conditions

Full‑time, 37.5 hours per week, 7:00 AM–3:00 PM Monday through Friday; weekends may be requested due to emergency designation. This is a full‑time, emergency position.

1 Prince Street, Northampton, Massachusetts. Salary: $55,264.82 – $75,113.48 per year. One opening.
