Job Overview
The Senior Manager Revenue Accounting is responsible for ensuring the integrity of the Company's revenue accounting by providing accounting expertise and a strong desire to improve processes and controls. The position reports to the Revenue Accounting Director and is accountable for supporting all accounting policy responsibilities, including documentation and oversight of the application of UL's revenue accounting policies in accordance with US GAAP.
It is a high-profile position that involves partnership with all of ULS’s business operations and an understanding of UL's diverse types of revenue, the contracts that govern our services, and our operational processes for orders, fulfillment of work, and invoicing.
Location:
Northbrook, IL office. This is a full-time, hybrid (3 days on-site) position.
- Be Global Process Owner for revenue accounting, partnering with business teams and driving continuous improvement.
- Manage direct reports by developing accountabilities, performance objectives, providing career counseling, feedback and guidance, ensuring policies are followed.
- Ensure revenue recognition policies and procedures for UL's income statement and balance sheet accounts conform to ASC 606, U.S. GAAP, other literature, and Company policies, including deferred revenue, unbilled revenue, accounts receivable, allowance for doubtful accounts described in financial statements and footnotes.
- Maintain governance over Order-to-Revenue processes.
- Manage monthly and quarterly revenue close process, ensuring accurate and timely results.
- Review customer contracts for revenue recognition implications, work with Sales teams to standardize contracts and explain non‑standard contracts.
- Ensure compliance with Sarbanes‑Oxley section 404 as related to revenue recognition and ownership of narrative and key controls.
- Provide revenue recognition guidance and training to cross‑functional teams.
- Work with external auditors during annual audit and quarterly reviews.
- University Degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
- At least 7 years directly related experience, including:
- Minimum 3 years public accounting experience (preferably with Big
4).
- Minimum 3 years public accounting experience (preferably with Big
- US Certified Public Accountant required.
- Strong technical knowledge of US GAAP.
- Experience in software and professional services industries is a plus.
- Self‑motivated individual who can adapt to changing environments.
- Estimated salary range: $128,000 to $160,000.
- Eligible for annual bonus with target payout of 20% of base salary.
