An established and growing professional services firm is seeking an experienced Cost Segregation Leader to launch and lead its in-house Cost Segregation practice.
This is a rare opportunity for an entrepreneurial professional who wants to build something from the ground up while running at doing so with a team of professional connections behind them. Historically, the firm has outsourced all cost segregation studies and is now making a strategic investment to bring this service in-house. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to shape the practice, establish processes and methodologies, serve as the firm's technical expert, and play a significant role in its long-term growth.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage cost segregation studies from initial property review through final report delivery.
- Conduct site visits and travel to client locations throughout Illinois and surrounding markets.
- Prepare and review engineering-based cost segregation analyses in accordance with IRS guidelines.
- Partner with tax professionals to identify planning opportunities for existing and prospective clients.
- Build internal workflows, templates, and best practices as the practice grows.
- Serve as the firm's subject matter expert on cost segregation and depreciation strategies.
- Present findings and recommendations to clients and provide exceptional consultative service.
- Support business development efforts and help expand the firm's cost segregation service offerings.
- 5+ years of cost segregation experience within public accounting, engineering, or a specialized consulting firm.
- Strong technical knowledge of cost segregation methodologies, MACRS depreciation, and IRS guidance.
- Experience independently managing and completing cost segregation studies.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or a related field.
- CPA, PE, or other relevant certification is a plus.
- Strong communication, project management, and client relationship skills.
- Ability and willingness to travel to client sites as needed.
- Build and lead a new service line within an established firm.
- Significant autonomy with direct access to firm leadership.
