Job Description SummaryThe Patient Services Representative greets and responds to the needs of incoming patients and families. They facilitate the flow of patient volume including patient check‑in, check‑out, scheduling appointments, and other front‑desk operations.
Responsibilities- Perform daily operations of the clinic and front‑desk duties: answering inbound calls, placing outbound calls, monitoring voicemail, scheduling initial and continuing appointments, and registering and monitoring the outpatient schedule to ensure maximum capacity.
- Facilitate the check‑in process by registering patients, verifying insurance information, collecting demographic data, and reviewing registration forms for completeness and accuracy.
- Identify and resolve patient and family issues, following through to ensure resolution.
- Post patient payments, issue receipts, and produce necessary cash reports for daily and monthly accounting.
- Schedule patient follow‑up appointments and allocate patients into available time slots according to clinician templates and protocols.
- Scan and fax patient documents.
- Perform any other duties assigned in the best interest of Shirley Ryan Ability Lab.
- High school diploma or equivalent; college or post‑high school technical training desired.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a customer service or general office role with increasing responsibility.
- Understanding of healthcare operations and basic health‑insurance guidelines (e.g., HMO’s).
- Exceptional customer‑service, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficient email communication and timely information relay.
- Strong problem‑solving skills and the ability to handle issues diplomatically and efficiently.
- Excellent organizational skills, high attention to detail, follow‑through, and active listening.
- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel; basic PowerPoint skills.
- Comfortable operating common PC software and office equipment (photocopier, printer, fax machine, scanner, calculator, multi‑line phone).
Reports directly to the Business Support Manager.
Working ConditionsNormal office environment with little or no exposure to dust or extreme temperature.
Pay and BenefitsPay Range: $19.00 per hour.
