Summary
The Senior Account Manager (SAM) works collaboratively with Team Leads, Producers, and Account Administrators to manage a book of large‑group employee benefits clients (1,000–5,000+ lives). The SAM serves as the day‑to‑day client contact, maintaining deep client and carrier relationships, supporting retention, and providing consultative service across fully insured, self‑funded, and level‑funded arrangements.
Job Duties- Maintain and grow client relationships for major market accounts with complex, multi‑carrier benefit structures.
- Collaborate on multi‑year strategic plans, including plan design optimization, cost containment, and benchmarking for large‑group employers.
- Manage claims and coverage issue resolution when elevated from HR, navigating self‑funded plan administration and multi‑carrier environments.
- Advises clients on compliance matters (ACA, ERISA, COBRA, state mandates) and provides ongoing compliance reporting.
- Facilitate open enrollment preparation, including SBCs, disclosure notices, benefit booklets, and employee presentations/webinars when not handled by the Account Administrator or Account Executive.
- Manage new carrier, plan, or vendor implementations, including benefits administration system build‑out and project management.
- Handle renewal preparation, financial analysis of renewal offers, and carrier negotiations for large‑group accounts.
- Assist in the RFP process, including census preparation, online quoting, proposal development, and stop‑loss marketing.
- Provide benchmarking reports (annually, quarterly, or monthly) with claims experience analysis and peer comparisons.
- Assist with billing and eligibility audits; conduct audits independently when not handled by the Account Administrator.
- Perform contract review; facilitate SPD Wraps, Cafeteria/POP Plan documents, and 5500 preparation.
- Install and maintain client‑specific data in Benefit Point.
- Prepare master group files, client contact sheets, and carrier files.
- Provide mentorship to Account Administrators and Assistant Plan Analysts.
- Attend continuing education training and follow HUB Broker Standards.
- Active Life & Health License.
- Minimum 5 years of EB account management experience, preferably with large or major market accounts (500+ lives minimum).
- Knowledge of self‑funded and level‑funded plan arrangements.
- Client‑facing experience presenting to HR leadership at large employers.
- Proficiency in MS Excel.
- Ability to travel.
- Bachelor’s degree (4‑year degree).
- Experience with Benefit Point or comparable agency management systems.
- Industry designations (CEBS, GBA, RHU, or REBC).
- Experience with multi‑state employer groups or multi‑location accounts.
The expected salary range for this position is $80,000 to $120,000, influenced by skills, experience, location, and business line.
