District 27 is searching for enthusiastic, child-centered special educators to support our students with disabilities. We are hiring multiple positions for the 2026-27 school year. We are looking for experienced special education teachers for our Supported Learning Environment (SLE) classrooms at Shabonee Elementary and Wood Oaks Junior High School. Special education teachers in District 27 support students with various disabilities in an inclusive environment.
Our Supported Learning Environment classrooms are designed to meet the needs of students with complex learning needs, including those with developmental delays, cognitive disabilities, autism, and multiple disabilities. Our SLE classrooms are fully integrated into our school communities to foster age-appropriate, peer-oriented social connections utilizing a model focused on high-quality, meaningful, inclusive practices. Students in the SLE classroom receive highly individualized, targeted instruction in a transdisciplinary team approach.
Our service delivery model includes providing small group instruction, supporting students in general education, and working directly with colleagues to ensure the needs of students are met in the least restrictive environment. LBS1 SLE Teachers also act as student case managers.
Northbrook School District 27 is a professional learning community with approximately 1,300 students across three schools, educating students to succeed in a changing world. Qualified candidates should possess a valid IL PEL with an LBS1 endorsement. Preferred candidates will have at least two years of prior classroom experience.
Salary and benefits for this position are covered by the District 27 Negotiated Agreement between the Board of Education and the Teachers Association. Salary will be determined based on experience and level of education. Multiple medical benefit plans are available to employees and are considered exemplary compared to those of other districts.
