The Archdiocese of Chicago Catholic schools serve more than 40,000 students in 150+ elementary and high schools in Cook and Lake counties. The Teacher is a qualified professional educator who meets the requirements to teach in a Catholic school in the Archdiocese of Chicago. As a teacher in a Catholic school, the Teacher acts as a representative of the Catholic Church to the students, both as a role model and through the various tasks, actions and other responsibilities assigned to the Teacher. The Teacher is a ministerial employee because of the Teacher’s role as both a representative of the Church and as a communicator of the Church’s message to the children entrusted to the Church’s care.

The Teacher is hired by and is directly accountable to the principal. The Teacher agrees to abide by the educational policies and procedures of the Archdiocese of Chicago and the Office of Catholic Schools as well as comply with the educational policies and procedures of the local school. The Teacher cooperates with the principal and staff in providing an educational environment that promotes the ministry of Catholic education.

The Teacher is a representative of the Archbishop of Chicago, effectuating his ministry of Catholic education and the religious teachings and doctrine of the Catholic Church at the level of the local school.

St. Norbert School is looking for extraordinary early childhood Teachers to join our team for the  school year! Our Preschool department is comprised of highly skilled, supportive colleagues. St. Norbert School has an established, well-respected, and growing early childhood program. We are looking for faculty to join our school family who bring enthusiasm, expertise and a love for children.

We are hiring one teacher for a 4-year-old classroom. A degree in Early Childhood Education is required.

We are looking for a candidate that will be able to:

  • Model principles that are aligned with our Catholic faith; kindness, patience, empathy, community and most importantly, the teachings of Jesus Christ.
  • Provide a variety of materials and resources for children to explore, manipulate and use, both in learning activities and in imaginative play.
  • Teach basic skills such as color, shape, number and letter recognition, personal hygiene, and social skills.
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior, and procedures for maintaining order.
  • Read books to entire classes or to small groups
  • Organize and lead activities designed to promote physical, mental and social development, such as games, arts and crafts, music, storytelling, and field trips.
  • Observe and evaluate children's performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
  • Identify children showing signs of emotional, developmental, or health-related problems, and discuss them with administration, parents or guardians.
  • Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress and needs, determine their priorities for their children, and suggest ways that they can promote learning and development.
  • Enforce all administration policies and rules governing students.
  • Prepare materials and classrooms for class activities.
  • Assimilate arriving children to the school environment by greeting them, helping them remove outerwear, and selecting activities of interest to them.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
  • Follow plans that establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects, and communicate those objectives to children.
  • Demonstrate activities to the children.
  • Arrange indoor and outdoor space to facilitate creative play, motor-skill activities, and safety.
  • Prepare reports on students and activities as required by administration.
  • Conduct planned activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question, and investigate.
