The Northbrook Park District is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced Dance Instructor to inspire and educate students of all ages in a variety of dance styles (including tap dance) within our vibrant and growing arts program. We are also seeking a choreographer to choreograph our Fall Youth Company production of Beetle juice JR. This can be the same person, or multiple people.

The Dance Instructor position is responsible for teaching assigned classes in a designated program area, within established program guidelines and while providing the proper guidance and support for each participant. Class instruction may vary based on level of expertise of students/attendees and age range of students/attendees. May instruct classes for children through adult age. Currently, we are looking for someone available to teach Saturday and Sunday mornings, as well as Monday and Friday mornings, and Monday evenings.

You do not have to be available for all time slots. Available classes include: tap, ballet, jazz, musical theatre, and more! Classes begin the week of 9/7/26.

Both positions pay $25-$35 hourly.

Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Develops and implements lessons or schedule supporting the established program curriculum.
  • Actively engages all students and provides support and constructive feedback.
  • Tracks attendance records and documents student progress, when required.
  • Prepares students for end of session shows or recitals as needed.
  • Arrives before class start time to inspect instruction space, set-up equipment and supplies if needed and greet students.
  • Regularly updates Performing Arts Supervisor on the condition of the teaching space and equipment.
  • Plans and organizes class routines, projects, performances, recital(s), when required.
  • Diligently follows and adheres to all safety policies and procedures.
  • Collaborates with internal and external customers in a positive manner.
  • Follows safe work practices.
  • Attends trainings and meetings as required.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Degree from four-year college or university with major course work in the subject area being taught, or supplemented by four (4) years teaching experience or experience working in the program area; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, ability and skills.
