Electrical Controls Engineer – Highland Baking Company
Location:
Northbrook, IL (25‑30% domestic travel to our South Carolina plant)
Full‑time. Salary: $57.00 – $60.10 per hour.
OverviewWe are seeking an Electrical Controls Engineer to oversee the development, programming, and troubleshooting of automated control systems using tranquila PLC technology (Allen Bradley products, ladder logic and block diagram). You will maintain subject‑matter expertise within a test systems development team, help establish department standards and procedures, and manage project scope and teams.
Responsibilities- Plan, design, and execute engineering work for installation and retro‑fit of complex equipment, including 600‑volt class power distribution, motor control centers, distribution panels, auxiliary support equipment, lighting, AC substation transformation, power transmission, welding, steam, compressed air, and hydraulic systems.
- Read and interpret electrical and control schematics, wiring diagrams, and blueprints.
- Design and implement human‑machine interfaces to enhance operator experience.
- Improve equipment performance through modification development and installation.
- Validate performance by conducting tests and evaluations of physical assets and PLC programs.
- Support the implementation of Quality Assurance and Food Safety initiatives.
- Assess infrastructure requirements and conduct needs analyses.
- Apply mechanical troubleshooting skills to resolve or repair electrical issues.
- Leverage knowledge of health and safety regulations, GMP, PPE, electrical metering, inspection tools, Allen Bradley software, networking configuration, and AutoCAD Electrical/ Rockwell/Factory Talk/Studio 5000 tools to meet facility electrical and control needs.
- Update and revise electrical drawings and PLC programs, tracking all changes.
- Review electrical requirements, drawings, and blueprints to ensure compliance for new projects.
- Assist maintenance personnel with advanced day‑to‑day equipment troubleshooting.
- Build medium‑size control panels using shop drawings that adhere to electrical standards.
- Master’s degree or equivalent in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- 12 months of related professional experience.
- 12 months of experience in each of the following areas: developing, programming, and troubleshooting Allen Bradley PLCs (ladder logic and block diagram); reading control schematics and wiring diagrams; acting as an Electrical Engineer subject‑matter expert on a test systems development team; working with basic power distribution for 600‑volt class systems (motor control centers, distribution panels, AC substation transformation, power transmission, welding, steam, compressed air, hydraulics).
- Experience earned before, during, or after a master’s program (or concurrently) is acceptable.
