What This Job InvolvesThe Data Center Operations Engineer is responsible for delivering best‑practice systems and problem resolution for all data centre electrical and mechanical infrastructure (UPS, MV electrical systems, generators, cooling systems, etc.).
Day to Day Responsibilities- Maintain, monitor, and perform preventive maintenance and continuous operation of all building systems to maintain 100% uptime, including fire/life safety, mechanical systems (HVAC, chillers, CRAC, CRAH, plumbing, controls), electrical backup systems (lighting, UPS, ATS, STS, PDU, generators, primary switch gear, power distribution, transformers), and hot water systems. Monitor operations, adjust, and maintain refrigeration, chilled water, air conditioning equipment, boilers, and ventilating and water heaters;
pumps, valves, piping, and filters; other mechanical and electrical equipment. Record readings and adjust for proper operation. - Analyze the operation of various systems, determine the cause of problems/malfunctions, and take corrective action. Comply with departmental policy for safe storage, usage, and disposal of hazardous materials. Maintain a clean and safe workplace.
- Learn and understand the data centre site to manage incidents and events that put critical systems at risk.
- Manage work orders, including CMMS, vendor management, and customer‑facing tickets.
- Understand and comply with emergency escalation procedures.
- Perform additional job duties as required.
- Frequent walking, climbing, bending, kneeling, lifting, stooping, and overhead work.
- Walk in large campus‑like settings.
- Lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
- Climb stairs and navigate rooftops to access equipment.
- Use ladders up to 30 ft and work from heights.
- Climb a ladder with a 300‑lb weight limit.
- Work different schedules, holidays, and respond to site emergencies.
- 2+ years experience in a data centre/critical facility.
- Universal EPA 608 certification.
- Experience with building systems, including UPS systems, emergency generators, and switchgears.
- Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills.
- Working knowledge of computer applications including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook), Google Suite, and CMMS.
- Corrigo experience.
- Trained in NFPA
70E.
Estimated: $37.00 – $52.15 USD per year.
LocationOn‑site – Northbrook, IL.
