Responsibilities
We’re seeking a Mid‑to‑Senior Level Server / Virtualization Engineer to join a long‑standing client environment and hit the ground running. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in hands‑on infrastructure work, brings deep VMware and vCenter expertise, and enjoys being a trusted technical backbone for an on‑site team.
This will be a 3 month contract opportunity with the potential for permanent hire. This will be onsite in Northbrook, IL with the potential to work remotely on Fridays.
What You’ll Be Doing- Own and support the VMware virtual environment, with heavy hands‑on work in vCenter
- Build, configure, and maintain virtual machines
- Support Windows Server environments, including Active Directory and Group Policy
- Create and manage service accounts, perform registry updates, and support system configurations
- Work with backup and recovery solutions, including Veeam
- Provide general server and virtualization support, with light exposure to storage environments
- Partner with Sentinel and internal stakeholders on ongoing infrastructure projects
- Serve as a steady, experienced presence for the environment with minimal oversight
- Strong, real‑world experience with VMware (ESXi, vCenter) is required
- Proven background as a server engineer in enterprise environments
- Solid experience with Windows Server, AD, and GPOs
- Familiarity with Veeam or similar backup solutions
- Some storage exposure (SANs, arrays, or similar) is helpful
- Linux experience is a plus, but not required
- Comfortable working fully onsite (remote Fridays may be an option)
- Able to step into an environment and contribute immediately
- Professional, reliable, and confident working independently
- No travel required
- Legally authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
- Must demonstrate a “can‑do” attitude
$70‑85/hr
