Job Summary

The PMHNP will work in coordination with Serene’s outpatient counseling services to provide psychiatric services to adult and youth clients with behavioral health issues. The PMHNP will work out of one or more office sites in the Chicago metro area. Services will be office‑based for in‑person and tele‑health sessions. The Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) will provide outpatient psychiatric evaluation and medication management services at Serene Health IPA Medical Group locations:
Schaumburg, IL;
Tinley Park, IL; and Northbrook, IL.

Responsibilities
  • Provide psychiatric services to clients in various clinical settings during scheduled hours; scope includes outpatient evaluations and medication management.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat adults, adolescents, and children experiencing behavioral health disorders.
  • Prescribe, recommend, or discontinue drugs and treatments for mental, emotional, or behavioral disorders.
  • Collaborate with counselors, social workers, and other treatment team members to coordinate client care.
  • Complete medical records accurately, including assessments, treatment plans, progress notes, outcome measures, and billing entries.
  • Provide counseling during appointments, as necessary.
  • Design or participate in individualized treatment plans, incorporating best practices into interventions.
  • Examine or order laboratory or diagnostic tests to assess general physical condition and mental disorders.
  • Collaborate with guardians, relatives, and significant others on client conditions and treatment when clinically appropriate.
  • Prepare and submit assessments, progress notes, reports, and summaries to funders, insurance companies, etc., as required.
  • Respond to calls and emails promptly (within 24 hours unless clinically necessary).
  • Respond to client emergencies and maintain accessibility.
  • Make independent decisions based on protocols and national guidelines for treatment interventions.
  • Maintain customer relations with all agency staff and clients.
  • Record all services performed for accurate billing in compliance with local, state, and federal laws and payor rules.
  • Identify and implement ways to improve quality.
  • Follow procedures and protocols as per Serene Health IPA Medical Corp policy, federal and state regulations, and standard practice.
  • Participate in agency and department education, training, and in‑services to stay current on policies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
  • Graduated from a state‑certified advance practice program specializing in psychiatry/mental health.
  • At least 1–2 years providing direct client care to persons receiving treatment for psychiatric disorders.
  • Ability to work with adult and youth/child populations.
