Job Summary
The Medical Assistant is responsible for daily clinical work in the outpatient/primary care setting in accordance with the Ambulatory Medical Assistant Scope of Practice. Assists Physicians and other staff under the direction of a Registered Nurse, Advanced Practice Nurse, and/or Physician.
Essential Job Functions- Depending on location, performs phlebotomy and specimen processing as directed by delegating provider.
- May align to specific or multiple divisions.
- Administers intramuscular injections, subcutaneous injections, intradermal skin testing, topical medications, ophthalmic drops, and nasal spray.
- Depending on location, performs ECGs, places Holter monitors, and downloads telemetry data. Responsible for ECG and Holter program for a specific location.
- Works in conjunction with other staff to maximize clinic flow.
- Intervenes appropriately in emergency situations.
- Documents data and changes in the Electronic Medical Record.
- Provides assistance and/or backup support for administrative tasks including scheduling patient visits and performing basic “check‑in, check‑out” activities.
- Obtains measurements, patient history and other intake activities.
- Stocks and maintains the clinic area, including ordering supplies as needed.
- Demonstrates knowledge of pertinent aspects and competency with protocols related to the use of chemical disinfection, high level disinfection, and sterilization if required.
- Depending on location, directs High Level Disinfection scope cleaning in accordance with defined HLD processes.
- Completes trainings and education, including but not limited to Healthcare Provider CPR.
- Other job functions as assigned.
- High school diploma required.
- Successful completion of a formal Medical Assistant program.
- Possesses 3 or more years of relevant clinical experience.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) (AAMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) preferred but not required.
- Some college, preferred.
- Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association.
- Excellent communication and listening skills.
- Substantial interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with pediatric patients, families, physicians, nursing, and other allied health and medical center personnel.
High School Diploma/GED (Required). Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association.
Compensation and BenefitsPay Range: $19.50–$30.23 hourly. In addition to base salary, Lurie Children’s offers a comprehensive rewards package that may include differentials for some hourly employees, leadership incentives for select roles, health and retirement benefits, and wellbeing programs.
