Position Summary

Sets up and operates one or more single or multiple-spindle lathe-type and/or CNC screw machines equipped with automatic indexing and feeding mechanisms to perform turning, boring, threading, and facing operations on bar stock on custom basis, analyzing specifications and deciding on tooling according to knowledge of screw‑machine operations. Perform the following duties in a safe and efficient manner consistent with established procedures using assigned personal protective equipment.

Job Functions
  • Studies blueprint, visualizes machining to be done, dimensions of parts permissible tolerances, and plans sequence of operations, using company supplied process sheets when appropriate.
  • Visualizes movements of machine parts, work pieces, and tools in each operation in relation to others, to assure efficient use of tools and time.
  • Selects cutting speeds, feed rates, depth of cuts, and cutting tools to be used on basis of process sheets.
  • Installs collets, bushings, and stock pushers in stock‑feeding mechanism, using wrenches and screwdrivers.
  • Installs and adjusts cams, gears, and stops to control stock and tool movements at each station.
  • Positions and secures tools in tool holders, verifying positions with gauges and other measuring instruments.
  • Move controls to set cutting speeds and feed rates.
  • Loads material, starts machine, observes operation, and verifies conformance to specifications of first‑run and sample work pieces, using such instruments as fixed gauges, calipers and micrometers.
  • Runs machine through cycle, stopping machine and adjusting tool positions and machine controls to allow for such factors as timing, clearance between moving parts, and chip removal.
  • Visually inspect production for burrs, scrapes, rust and other defects.
  • Verify conformance of production to specifications using gages, micrometers and calipers, etc.
  • Replace worn tools.
  • Operates bench grinder or cutter‑grinding machine to sharpen tools.
  • Sets up machines for other workers; train and assist operator as needed on difficult jobs or unusual work instructions and adjust or re‑set work.
  • Responsible for maintenance of machine, including but not limited to lubrication and adjustment and repairs of equipment per manufacturer's manual.
  • Inspects and measures parts to maintain statistical process control charts when required.
  • Update data collection system at beginning and end of each task using barcode scanning and basic data entry.
  • Maintain organized and clean work area.
  • Receive, understand and follow all written and oral instruction.
  • Communicate all problems and other work‑related issues to supervisor.
  • Timely completion of all paperwork associated with position including move tags
  • Comply with all company policies and procedures including safety and attendance requirements.
  • Participate in activities to increase personal skill level, overall departmental processes and product quality.
  • Resolve day‑to‑day issues by working effectively with others.
  • Maintain meet or exceed rating on all performance evaluations.
  • Follow all job‑related instructions and perform other job‑related duties as requested, subject to all applicable state and federal laws.
  • Train operators on how to run and collect data per control plan.
  • Job Qualification Requirements
  • Minimum of 2 years of trade school, vocational education, work experience, or apprenticeship.
  • Strong mechanical ability to operate and troubleshoot equipment and machinery.
  • Basic math and English skills for part count, written and verbal work instruction.
  • Ability to read blueprints, piece prints, work instructions and use measuring equipment.
  • Ability to monitor machine sounds to identify changes in order to alert department lead.
  • Mastered the act of setting up multi‑spindle screw machines.

    Physical Requirements
  • Stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
  • Lift, carry and move up to 50 pounds of parts and/or equipment occasionally throughout the workday.
  • 20/20 vision with or without correction
  • Use of hands 100% of the workday
  • Ability to work in a shop environment, exposure to high noise levels, moving equipment and machinery; exposure to dust, fumes and mist; exposure to chemicals including oils and cutting fluids.
  • Position is full‑time, on‑site. Day and Night shifts available.
