Starting Pay: $59,165.9754, with step increases at 6 months and 1 year of satisfactory performance.

Must possess CDL Class B Driver’s License and be on the on-call list for seven (7) years upon satisfactory completion of probationary period for Merit A pay scale. For more detailed information, to access the current collective bargaining agreement (wage tables are located in Appendix
A).
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt – Full-time
Location: 655 Huehl Road Northbrook, IL 60062
Schedule: Regular schedule is Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., with additional hours required outside of these times in the event of an emergency. During the snow season, employees may also be required to transition to a 12‑hour shift schedule as needed to support snow‑storm operations.
The Maintenance Workers for the Village of Northbrook perform manual labor tasks related to maintaining the Village’s infrastructure, such as snow removal, pavement repair, water main repairs, forestry, and facility upkeep. This position involves working both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, using various tools and equipment, and may work independently or on a team. During the first year of employment, employees will complete a rotation within the different divisions (forestry, streets, facilities, water and sewer) to learn the responsibilities within each division and are required to work and respond to emergencies after hours.
Key Responsibilities- Pavement and Sidewalk Repairs
:
Repair or remove and replace damaged pavement and sidewalks, ensuring safe and smooth surfaces for public use. - Forestry
:
Inspect, maintain and care for trees owned by the village, ensuring their health and longevity. - Traffic Signage and Signals
:
Inspect, maintain, and repair traffic signs, signals, and road markings to ensure proper functioning and safety. - Construction Tasks
:
Use hand and power tools for construction‑related activities such as underground utility installation, concrete, and asphalt repairs. - Equipment Operation
:
Safely operate construction and heavy‑duty machinery to complete maintenance and repair tasks. - Facility Maintenance
:
Perform routine maintenance and repairs to village buildings, infrastructure, and equipment to ensure functionality and safety. - Snow Removal
:
Operate vehicle‑mounted plows and use hand tools to remove snow from streets, sidewalks, and public areas to ensure safe travel conditions. - Emergency Response
:
Respond to emergency situations, including snow removal and other urgent tasks, as needed to maintain village operations. - On‑Call Duty
:
Upon completion of probationary period and to move to Merit Scale A, individuals must be available for after‑hours work, including emergency response and routine maintenance tasks as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent
- CDL Class B with air brake endorsement must be obtained within first 90 days of employment.
- Live within 25 miles of the Village of Northbrook Public Works Center per collective bargaining agreement.
