2nd Shift Maintenance Technician
This Maintenance Technician performs preventive and reactive maintenance on flavoring production machinery and facility equipment in a clean, GMP-regulated food manufacturing environment. This role works closely with other maintenance technicians and specialists to keep dry blend, spraying, reactor, extractor, and compounding equipment running safely and efficiently. The position is a balanced mix of mechanical and electrical work, requiring strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and adherence to strict safety and quality standards.
Responsibilities
- Perform preventive maintenance on production and facility equipment in accordance with established manuals and company procedures.
- Carry out reactive maintenance and repairs on flavoring machinery, including dry blend, spraying, reactors, extractors, and compounding machines.
- Troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical issues on equipment, including work on single and 3-phase motors and systems up to 480 volts.
- Assist in the removal, installation, and replacement of production equipment as needed to support operations.
- Maintain building and grounds to meet required facility standards, ensuring a safe, clean, and orderly environment.
- Follow all safety and regulatory requirements, including lockout/tagout procedures, when servicing equipment in a food processing environment.
- Work in compliance with GMP, HACCP, Allergen, SSOP, and safety guidelines at all times.
- Use repair manuals, schematics, and blueprints to diagnose issues and complete repairs effectively.
- Maintain an organized, neat, and orderly workplace and maintenance shop.
- Monitor and maintain inventory of tools and related maintenance supplies.
- Collaborate with a team of maintenance professionals to prioritize and complete work orders efficiently.
- Support HVAC-related maintenance within the food processing facility as required.
- Demonstrate strong attention to detail to protect product quality and maintain compliance with food safety standards.
- Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned by leadership to support production and facility reliability.
Essential Skills
- At least 3 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Proven experience working with pneumatic systems in an industrial setting.
- Proven experience working with hydraulic systems in an industrial setting.
- Hands-on experience working with electrical systems up to 480 volts.
- Experience working on single-phase and 3-phase motors.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical and mechanical schematics.
- Strong mechanical aptitude with experience in industrial mechanical maintenance and repair.
- Ability to perform both mechanical and electrical work, with responsibilities split approximately 50% mechanical and 50% electrical.
- Experience performing preventive maintenance on production equipment.
- Knowledge and practical use of lockout/tagout procedures in an industrial or food processing environment.
- Familiarity with GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) requirements in a production setting.
- Ability to troubleshoot equipment issues systematically using manuals, schematics, and diagnostic techniques.
- Capability to work safely with 3-phase power and industrial electrical components.
- Strong attention to detail to maintain quality and safety standards.
- Ability to work effectively on a maintenance team and communicate clearly with peers and leadership.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience repairing forklifts is a plus.
- Experience repairing cherry pickers or similar material handling equipment is preferred.
- Experience in food or flavors industry is highly desirable.
- Experience working in a HACCP-certified facility is a strong advantage.
- Additional electrical experience beyond the minimum requirements is beneficial.
- Familiarity with HVAC systems in a food processing or industrial environment is helpful.
- Experience working under GMP, HACCP, Allergen, and SSOP guidelines.
- Comfort working with industrial hydraulics and pneumatics at a more advanced level.
- Ability to adapt to varying production demands and overtime needs as required.
