Your mission is simple and ambitious: ensure every order leaves complete, compliant, and on time. With Safety # 1 guiding every move, you’ll blend document control, carrier communication, and hands-on dock work to keep product flowing.

Picture this scenario

An urgent export order drops. You immediately assemble the packing slip, BOL, and export paperwork, confirm NAFTA information is on file, and perform a final inspection of the packet. You contact the carrier, provide precise driving directions, and verify the freight cost using the company’s freight tables. While parcel labels print for UPS/Fed Ex shipments, you match a signed BOL to its Sales order and finalize it.

On the floor, you stage shipments, match each pallet to its paperwork, and help load the truck—then pivot to receive incoming freight from the mills and record any non-conforming material.

Your core responsibilities

Prepare and verify packing slips, Bills of Lading, and export documents; conduct final inspection of all shipping paperwork.

Match signed BOLs to Sales orders and finalize BOLs as needed; prepare certifications per Sales order requests.

Maintain information regarding NAFTA and coordinate required activities for export shipments.

Contact carriers when shipments are ready and provide clear driving directions.

Use freight tables to validate shipping costs; process UPS/Fed Ex shipments via computer.

Schedule inbound freight from the mills.

Organize the shipping floor and stage daily shipments; match paperwork to each load.

Assist with loading/unloading trucks; load and unload turnstiles for the 50” slitter and CTL.Assist with packaging of “As Is” orders.

Assist with receiving incoming freight and with recording non-conforming material.

Support Sales on shipping issues and assist customers with reprinting, fixing, and emailing documents.

Assist the Invoicing Clerk when required and help train new personnel.

Standards that set you apart

Housekeeping aligned with Traffic/Shipping expectations—sweep, pick up, and keep work areas organized.

Maintain scrap skids in order and deliver to the processor once a truckload is ready.

Pitch in on other Shipping/Receiving duties as needed.

Qualifications High school diploma or GED.Three or more years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred experience with: tape measure, micrometer, calipers, crane, fork lift truck, bander, band cutters, and side loader.

Based in Northbrook, Illinois, you’ll be central to the smooth flow of materials across our operation.
