Pay Rate: $30.60 per hour
LocationsNorthlake, IL, and Maumee, OH manufacturing sites.
RoleWe are seeking Engineering Co-Ops for Northlake, IL, and Maumee, OH, manufacturing sites. Engineering co-op students at Sun Chemical Corporation are considered to be an integral part of the Engineering staff and are provided with tasks that are both technically challenging and educationally stimulating. Under guidance of the senior engineering staff, the students will be assigned to teams associated with ongoing manufacturing projects.
The goal of our co-op program is to develop future engineering resources for our organization while providing support to our central engineering group. We structure the co-op assignments so that, with each new term, the candidates develop the ability to accept an increasing level of complexity and self-reliance. It is our goal to have our Co-Ops fully capable of stepping into a full-time engineering position within our organization by the end of the program.
Experience & Learning Outcomes
Over the course of their 5 term Co-Op, students will be exposed to:
- Working with engineers and plant personnel to become familiar with basic manufacturing processes.
- Plant operations and safety procedures in a manufacturing environment.
- Introduction to the Pilot lab and laboratory procedures and protocols.
- Initial exposure to smaller projects within the plant environment. As work sessions progress, projects will become larger and more complex.
- Introduction to Process Design, Project Engineering and Project Management.
- Independent work on projects both individual and group oriented.
- Develop an understanding of how to estimate project costs and calculate financial returns.
- Become more involved in evaluating processes and optimizing systems.
- Gain an understanding of automated manufacturing process design.
- Learn how to write a Capital Allocation Request (CARs).
In order to be a successful co-op, you should possess the following attributes:
- Be self-motivated and eager to learn industry concepts and processes.
- Demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Possess excellent organizational skills and the ability to prioritize.
- Willingness and flexibility to travel.
- Self-directed, strong interpersonal and technical skills, initiative, emphasis on quality and timeliness of work output.
- Strong problem solving skills.
- Ability to work individually and in a team environment.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Pursuing a Mechanical or Chemical Engineering degree.
Co-Op roles do not qualify for company benefits such as paid vacation, holidays, or health insurance. Co-op roles are eligible to enroll in the Sun Chemical 401(k) plan as a temporary employee.
