Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
Position Overview
The Equipment Manager reports to the Director of Agronomy and/or the Superintendent and/or Assistant Golf Course Superintendents and is responsible for overseeing the maintenance and repairing of all golf course equipment. This role includes diagnosing and repairing equipment, performing preventative maintenance, maintaining accurate parts and labor records, and ordering parts and supplies as needed. Safety is a top priority, and the Equipment Manager is responsible for maintaining a clean, organized, and safe service area and maintenance facility.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Perform routine and preventative maintenance on all golf course equipment.
- Diagnose and repair mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems efficiently and accurately.
- Conduct reel and bedknife grinding, mower setup, and cutting-unit calibration to maintain optimal quality of cut.
- Maintain an organized, clean, and safe shop environment, including proper storage of tools, parts, and equipment.
- Track and manage parts inventory; assist with budgeting and purchasing of repair parts and shop supplies.
- Maintain accurate service records, maintenance logs, and equipment condition reports.
- Train and support maintenance staff on proper equipment operation, daily setup, and preventative care.
- Coordinate with the Director of Agronomy, Superintendent, and Assistant Superintendents to ensure equipment availability for daily course operations.
- Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical defects or failures in a wide variety of equipment, including diesel-, gasoline-, and electric-powered mowers, utility vehicles, rollers, trenchers, sweepers, trucks, and specialty turf equipment.
- Prioritize maintenance and repair tasks based on course needs and equipment condition.
- Implement and manage a preventative maintenance program within established budget guidelines.
- Perform on-course spot checks, make emergency repairs, and supervise servicing of equipment before and after use.
- Oversee shop maintenance and keep maintenance office documents and records well organized.
- Regulate equipment use by employees, as needed, in the absence of the Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
- Communicate regularly with the Director of Agronomy, Superintendent, and Assistant Superintendents regarding cut quality, equipment performance, and needed repairs or parts to improve turf conditions on greens, tees, fairways, and roughs.
- Inspect equipment after each use to ensure it is prepared for the next day’s operation, including daily checks of height of cut and quality of cut.
In season schedule (March-November) Monday-Friday, half hour before staff arrival to get equipment staged and half hour after staff leaves to check mowers in. Normal hours 5:00am - 2:30pm. Weekends as required for tournaments and special events.
Off season (December-February) Monday-Friday 8:00am-2:00pm or flexible hours. 28-32 hours per week.
