Location Description

Michael Foods, Inc. is located in Norwalk, Iowa, a southern suburb of the Des Moines metropolitan area. The facility produces high‑quality precooked egg patties and various French toast products, benefit ting from a supportive community and a high quality of life.

Summary

The Maintenance Electrician Level 1 (MEL1) provides maintenance and reliability services within the plant, focusing on execution of electrical/instrumentation preventive maintenance, periodic detailed maintenance, reliability‑centered maintenance, precision maintenance, and operator care programs. The MEL1 supports plant maintenance, operational, and support teams to achieve safety, quality, and reliability goals.

Schedule:

Night shifts (2‑2‑3 schedule). The position offers a sign‑on bonus, annual merit reviews, and reimbursed college courses while employed. Availability on scheduled work times, weekends, and holidays is required.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Participate with electrical/instrumentation maintenance team members to ensure personal safety, quality, delivery, and cost are continuously improved.
  • Learn and champion Precision Maintenance techniques, ensuring procedural compliance and meeting job tolerances.
  • Participate in critical electrical/instrumentation equipment maintenance training for maintenance personnel.
  • Follow reliability procedures for critical electrical/instrumentation spares and parts.
  • Follow quality commissioning procedures for critical rebuilt or new equipment.
  • Engage in critical electrical/instrumentation maintenance assignments and troubleshooting tasks.
  • Use MFI‑approved CMMS to manage, document, and support reliability reporting and decision making.
  • Maintain accurate and up‑to‑date records as required.
  • Contribute to root‑cause analysis and reliability‑centered maintenance for continuous asset reliability improvement.
  • Promote Michael Foods culture, values, and principles.
  • Serve as a role model for safe work behaviors, ensuring a safe and healthy workplace.
  • Adhere to quality work practices, follow GMPs, maintain sanitary conditions, and report any conditions that may adversely affect food safety and quality.
  • Ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Associate’s degree, two‑year technical certificate, or relevant combination of experience demonstrating electrical/instrumentation technical aptitude.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a maintenance electrician in industry or manufacturing.
  • Electrical license or electrical/instrumentation certification preferred.
  • Experience in electrical/instrumentation troubleshooting.
  • Understanding of mechanical and/or electrical schematics and blueprints, including equipment‑specific electronics diagrams.
  • Prior experience in SAP preferred.
  • Ability to interact with all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent administrative and follow‑up skills.
Physical Requirements

The job requires regular talking and listening, standing, walking, and occasional lifting and moving up to 60 pounds. Employees may need to use hands to finger, handle, feel, reach, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Exposure to a noisy environment that varies from hot to cold.
