Position Highlights

Location:

Norwich Technical High School, Norwich, CT

Shift: Full‑time, First Shift, 37.5 hours per week

Schedule:

Monday – Friday, 10:00 am – 6:00 pm

Custodian – full‑time position providing building support and maintenance for classrooms, offices, common areas, and outdoor spaces at Norwich Technical High School.

• Perform custodial tasks such as dusting, mopping, sweeping, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, and polishing floors using appropriate equipment (e.g., floor polishers and buffers).
• Wash, dust, and polish glass, windows, woodwork, walls, furniture, and metal equipment.
• Make beds and manage linens, blankets, and clothing in own work area.
• Collect, count, and dispose of trash; sweep walkways and around buildings.
• Report repair needs and perform minor maintenance (e.g., light bulb changes, fuse replacement, door hinge lubrication).
• Change or replace ceiling or floor tiles, remove snow or ice from stairways and walkways, and sand or salt as necessary.
• Move furniture and set up classrooms as required.
• Inspect buildings for damage and report conditions to supervisor.
• Run errands and assist with related duties as required.

• Keep accurate records of work activities.

Any experience and training which provide the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above.

• Experience performing custodial work in a school.
• Experience waxing and polishing floors with floor polishers and buffers.
• Experience removing snow and ice from stairways and walkways around schools or other large buildings.
• Experience deep cleaning and disinfecting large facilities.
• Experience moving furniture in a school and setting up classrooms.

Incumbents must have adequate physical strength, stamina, agility, and visual and auditory acuity. Physical fitness must enable the performance of job duties. A physical examination may be required.

Incumbents may be required to lift moderate to heavy weights and may be exposed to risk of injury from equipment and/or individuals.
