Qualifications

Ability to read and write English. General knowledge of cleaning and sanitary methods.

Essential Duties

The Custodian has the duties and responsibilities commonly associated with this position, including (but not limited to) the following, which are performed directly or through the proper delegation of authority, within the framework of the general laws of New Jersey, the regulations of the NJ State Department of Education, the policies and rules of the Nutley School District.

General Duties And Responsibilities
  • Sweep classroom, corridor, auditorium, and gymnasium floors.
  • Mop floors in designated areas.
  • Clean rest rooms and locker rooms.
  • Wash windows.
  • Dust and wax furniture.
  • Wash walls.
  • Wash chalk boards as required.
  • Clean Lockers.
  • Dust light fixtures.
  • Strip and wax floors.
  • Change light bulbs and ballasts.
  • Empty trash cans.
  • Empty trash from building for disposal.
  • Remove litter and debris from grounds around building.
  • Clean cafeteria.
  • Vacuum and shampoo carpets.
  • Setup, move or dismantle furniture, portable equipment and/or materials.
  • Clean venetian blinds.
  • Repair or replace shades.
  • Paint areas as assigned.
  • Report any hazardous or potentially hazardous conditions, that the employee is unable to safely and expeditiously remedy, to the head custodian and/or principal.
  • Assist maintenance employees as needed.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by building principal/Director of buildings and grounds.
Additional Responsibilities

Performs such other tasks and assumes such other responsibilities as the principal, manager of buildings and grounds, business administrator or superintendent may assign or delegate.
