Job SummaryThe Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, orderly, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, parish members, and visitors. This role supports the mission and values of the Catholic school by ensuring school facilities are properly cleaned, maintained, and prepared for daily operations and special events.
Job Responsibilities- Clean and sanitize classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, cafeteria areas, gymnasium, and common spaces
- Sweep, mop, vacuum, dust, and empty trash/recycling containers
- Maintain floors through stripping, waxing, buffing, and carpet cleaning
- Refill restroom and cleaning supplies as needed
- Set up and take down tables, chairs, and equipment for school events, Masses, athletic activities, and meetings
- Monitor building security by locking/unlocking doors and reporting safety concerns
- Perform minor maintenance and repairs such as changing light bulbs, replacing filters, and basic plumbing or painting tasks
- Assist with snow removal, salting walkways, and outdoor grounds upkeep when required
- Follow all health, safety, and OSHA guidelines
Report maintenance issues, damages, or unsafe conditions promptly - Support emergency cleanup and response as needed
- Maintain respectful and professional interactions consistent with Catholic values
- Previous custodial or maintenance experience preferred
- Knowledge of cleaning equipment, supplies, and safe handling procedures
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and perform physical labor for extended periods
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively
- Dependable attendance and punctuality
- Willingness to support the mission of Catholic education
- Background check and Safe Environment training may be required
