Location: Fort Zumwalt School District – Rock Creek Elementary, O'Fallon, Missouri
Position
Purpose:
To provide staff and students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to work and learn.
Must be able to perform custodian tasks listed in the essential duties section and complete assigned tasks in accordance with established time and quality control guidelines.
Essential Duties- Maintain cleanliness of building, premises, and entryways, including stairways, sidewalks, driveways, and play areas.
- Clean the following assigned areas daily in accordance with specified standards:
- Classrooms – clean desks, whiteboards, door and window frames, dust high and low surfaces, empty trash, refill supplies, sweep/vacuum, dust mop or wet mop floors.
- Bathrooms – clean toilets, urinals, sinks, partition walls and mirrors; empty trash; refill soap, toilet paper, paper towels and sanitary products; sweep and mop the floor.
- Hallways – sweep, dust, mop, scrub, burnish halls; clean and polish water fountains.
- Inside responsibilities as scheduled by shift:
- Maintain custodial closets.
- Regulate heating, ventilation, and air conditioning to provide appropriate temperatures and economical usage.
- Raise and lower cafeteria tables.
- Lock and unlock doors in accordance with building requirements.
- Clean body fluids.
- Replace light bulbs and pencil sharpeners.
- Outside responsibilities as scheduled by shift:
- Raise and lower the United States flag daily.
- Maintain grounds free of trash and litter and keep the dumpster area clean and locked.
- Mow and trim grounds as assigned.
- Remove graffiti as needed.
- Clear snow and ice.
- Maintain play areas for cleanliness and safety.
- Wash windows.
- Load and unload deliveries and supplies.
- Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for activities or as directed by the principal.
- Attend and participate in any district‑required training.
- Assist with building function set‑up and subsequent cleanup, ensuring the building is secured after events.
- Be able to work in adverse weather conditions and assist with shoveling snow when required.
- Maintain a neat, clean personal appearance and wear district uniforms when performing custodial duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal and their designee.
- Communicate verbally and in writing with administrators, staff, and community as needed.
- Maintain custodial tools and equipment.
- Report immediately to the lead custodian or supervisor any damage to school property or needed repairs.
- Assist in the cafeteria as needed.
- Perform emergency repairs or cleaning services as needed.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and to communicate clearly both orally and in writing, and to reason and make appropriate decisions.
Physical DemandsRegularly required to reach, climb, bend, stand, walk, use hand strength to grasp tools, climb ladders, and handle objects. May lift up to 50 pounds routinely and up to 100 pounds sporadically. Frequently push or pull items such as desks, tables, bleachers, and scrubbing machines. Requires good color vision, hearing, and speech capabilities.
Environmental ConditionsWork may occasionally be performed in extreme heat or cold. This description is not a comprehensive list of duties and activities required.
Terms of EmploymentAt‑will basis for 12 months with two weeks vacation, beginning July 1, or from the date of employment for the duration of the school year with prorated vacation and/or personal leave. Work schedule is eight and a half hours per day (including a 30‑minute unpaid lunch). Salary is paid in twenty‑four equal payments.
BenefitsFull‑time employment with paid vacation and prorated personal leave as noted. Other benefits may be available as per district policy.
Salary$15.80 per hour.
