Job Description

To provide staff and students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to work and learn.

Qualifications
  • Must demonstrate ability to perform the listed tasks, completing them in accordance with established time and quality control guidelines.
Essential Duties
  • Maintain cleanliness of building, premises, and entryways, including stairways, sidewalks, driveways, play areas, keeping them neat and clean at all times.
  • Clean the following assigned areas daily in accordance with specified standards:
    • a. Classrooms – clean desktops, whiteboards, door windows, windows to outside; high and low dusting; empty trash & pencil sharpeners; sweep/vacuum, dust mop/wet mop classroom floors.
    • b. Bathrooms – clean toilets, urinals, sinks, partition walls, mirrors; empty trash; refill soap, toilet paper, paper towels, sanitary products; sweep and mop restroom floor.
    • c. Hallways – sweep/dust/mop/auto scrub/burnish hallways; clean and polish water fountains.
  • Inside responsibilities as dictated by AM or PM shift:
    • a. Maintain custodial closets as directed.
    • b. Regulate HVAC systems to provide appropriate temperatures and efficient usage of fuel, water, electricity.
    • c. Raise and lower cafeteria tables.
    • d. Lock/unlock doors in accordance with building requirements.
    • e. Body fluid clean‑up.
    • f. Change and install light bulbs and pencil sharpeners.
  • Outside responsibilities as dictated by AM or PM shift:
    • a. Raise and lower the United States flag daily.
    • b. Keep the grounds free from trash and litter.
    • c. Keep the dumpster area clean and locked at all times.
    • d. Grounds care: mowing and trimming as assigned.
    • e. Graffiti removal as needed.
    • f. Snow/ice removal.
    • g. Maintain play areas to ensure a clean, safe, and attractive environment.
    • h. Wash windows.
  • Load/unload the storage of deliveries and supplies.
  • Move furniture or equipment within buildings as required for various activities and as directed by the principal.
  • Attend and participate in any district-required training.
  • Assist with building function set‑up and clean‑up afterward; ensure building is secure after events.
  • Work in adverse weather conditions (heat, cold, rain, snow); assist in shoveling snow when required.
  • Additional Duties
    • Maintain a neat, clean personal appearance and wear district uniforms when performing custodial duties.
    • Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.
    • Communicate verbally and in written form with administrators, staff, and the community as needed.
    • Maintain custodial tools and equipment.
    • Report immediately to the lead custodian or supervisor any damage to school property and repairs needed.
    • Assist in the cafeteria as needed.
    • Perform emergency repairs or cleaning services as needed.
    Physical and Mental Demands

    Physical demands: reach, climb, bend, stand, walk; hand strength to grasp and use tools, climb ladders; lift up to 50 lbs, occasionally up to 100 lbs; push/pull large items. Require good color vision, hearing, speech.

    Mental demands: maintain confidentiality; communicate clearly orally and in writing; make appropriate decisions.

    Work Environment

    Work may involve extreme heat or cold; may work outdoors occasionally.

    Terms of Employment

    At‑will basis for 12 months, with two weeks vacation or prorated; work calendar reflects daily schedule; 8.5 hours including a 30‑minute non‑paid lunch; salary paid monthly; yearly salary paid in twenty‑four equal payments.

    Benefits

    Salary: $18.80 per hour. Full‑time position.
