Job SummaryThe Lead Custodian – Secondary is responsible for ensuring a clean, safe, and attractive environment for students, staff, and visitors. This role involves overseeing custodial services at the assigned site, supervising custodial personnel, preparing facilities for events, and completing tasks in a timely manner.
Key Responsibilities- Safety & Accessibility:
- Assist with snow removal to ensure safe access.
- Prepare the site for daily operations and events (e.g., opening gates, raising flags).
- Conduct safety drills and trainings (e.g., fire, intruder, earthquake).
- Monitor students and staff to prevent injuries.
- Cleaning & Maintenance:
- Clean classrooms, offices, gymnasiums, restrooms, and grounds to maintain a sanitary environment.
- Perform summer maintenance tasks (e.g., stripping/waxing floors, moving furniture).
- Conduct minor maintenance on custodial equipment and fixtures (e.g., changing vacuum belts).
- Oversee and support assigned custodial personnel to ensure tasks are performed efficiently.
- Train custodial staff to develop safety and trade skills.
- Consult with administrative personnel to plan and prioritize custodial activities.
- Supplies & Safety:
- Replenish classroom and restroom supplies (e.g., paper towels, soap).
- Respond to immediate safety and operational concerns (e.g., facility damage, alarms).
- Secure the facility by locking doors, gates, and activating alarms.
- Event Preparation:
- Prepare the site for events (e.g., athletics, music programs, graduation) to ensure the comfort and safety of participants and attendees.
- Deliver supplies, mail, and furniture to appropriate locations within the site.
- Other Duties:
- Perform additional tasks as assigned to ensure the efficient functioning of the work unit.
- Education:
High school diploma or equivalent preferred. - Experience:
Job‑related experience with increasing levels of responsibility in custodial services is required. - Skills:
Ability to operate industrial cleaning equipment, adhere to safety practices, and maintain accurate records. - Knowledge:
Methods of industrial cleaning, basic maintenance tools, and safety procedures. - Abilities:
Schedule activities, manage tasks, work with diverse individuals, and adapt to changing priorities.
