Position Purpose / SummaryTo provide staff and students with a safe, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient place in which to work and learn.
Qualification RequirementsThe custodian should demonstrate the ability to perform the tasks listed and complete assigned tasks in accordance with established time and quality control guidelines.
Essential Duties- Classrooms – clean desktops, whiteboards, door windows, window sills; high and low dusting; empty trash and pencil sharpeners; sweep, vacuum, dust mop or wet mop classroom floors.
- Bathrooms – clean toilets, urinals, sinks, partition walls, and mirrors; empty trash; refill soap, toilet paper, paper towels, and sanitary products; sweep and mop restroom floor.
- Hallways – sweep/dust/mop, auto‑scrub, burnish hallways; clean and polish water fountains.
- Maintain custodial closets as directed.
- Regulate HVAC systems to provide appropriate temperatures and ensure economical usage of fuel, water, and electricity.
- Raise and lower cafeteria tables.
- Lock/unlock doors in accordance with building requirements.
- Clean up body fluids.
- Change and install light bulbs and pencil sharpeners.
- Raise and lower the United States flag daily.
- Keep grounds free from trash and litter.
- Keep dumpster area clean and locked at all times.
- Perform grounds care: mowing and trimming as assigned.
- Graffiti removal as needed.
- Remove snow/ice.
- Maintain play areas to ensure a clean, safe, and attractive environment.
- Wash windows.
- Maintain a neat, clean personal appearance and wear district uniforms at all times when performing custodial duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal and their designee.
- Effectively communicate verbally and in written form with administrators, staff, and the community as needed.
- Maintain custodial tools and equipment.
- Report immediately to the lead custodian/supervisor any damage to school property and any repairs needed.
- Assist in the cafeteria as needed.
- Perform emergency repairs or cleaning services as needed.
Ability to maintain confidentiality; communicate clearly both orally and in writing; ability to reason and make appropriate decisions.
Physical DemandsRegularly required to reach, climb, bend, stand, and walk; continuously use hand strength to grasp and use tools; lift up to 50 pounds normally and up to 100 pounds occasionally; frequent pushing or pulling of items (desks, tables, bleachers, scrubbing machines). Good color vision, hearing, and speech capabilities are required.
Environmental ConditionsThe employee will occasionally work in conditions of extreme heat or cold.
Terms of EmploymentEmployment will be at‑will for 12 months with two weeks vacation, beginning July 1, or for the duration of the school year with prorated vacation and/or personal leave. Work calendar may be modified by the Board of Education. An eight and a half hour day (including a 30‑minute unpaid lunch) constitutes a workday. Salary will be disbursed in 24 equal payments.
EvaluationEnd‑of‑year performance evaluations will occur annually as per the Board’s policy.
