Responsibilities
Part‑time Youth Services Assistant works closely with the entire library staff to serve the public, providing assistance at the Youth Services Desk by:
- Providing general reference, reader's advisory, and system‑wide hold services and assistance to children and adults, both in library and on the phone.
- Participating in the creation and presentation of programming services offered by the Youth Services Department.
- Acting as the library's Person‑in‑Charge when designated.
- Checking library materials in and out accurately.
- Aiding in shelving department materials accurately.
- Aiding in the weeding process.
- Participating in shelf reading to ensure materials are shelved in proper order.
- Straightening materials on shelves.
- Assisting patrons in the use of computers, tablets, online services, Internet, copier, self‑check‑out, computer catalog, and other equipment available for public use.
- Planning and preparing materials for displays, bibliographies, and other materials.
- Registering patrons for library programs in person and over the phone.
- Making reminder calls/emails for library programs and events.
- Performing opening and/or closing procedures.
Performs other miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Qualifications- High school diploma or equivalent required, LTA or Bachelor’s Degree preferred.
- At least six months of customer service experience.
- Effective communication in English, both orally and in writing.
- Effective multitasking ability.
- Maintains a cohesive working relationship with library staff.
- Ability to read computer and other office equipment screens.
- Physical stamina to stand/sit for long periods, walk, bend, stoop, reach, lift, stand on a stool, and push/pull heavy carts.
- Accurate typing.
- Use of personal computers and software applications as well as web‑based utilities and applications.

HoursThis position averages 18 hours per week. Hours will include mornings, afternoons, evenings and alternating Fridays/Saturdays and some Sundays as needed by the department.
Compensation and BenefitsPay: $15.35–$18.42 per hour, starting at $15.35 per hour.
