Position: Middle School Physical Education/Health Teacher
Reports To: Principal
Job Description: Instructs students in physical education activities in a school; teaches individual and team sports, health, and social/emotional skills
Requirements: Must have valid Illinois PEL with PE Endorsementand Health Endorsement preferred
Essential Functions- Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, and individual, dual, or team sports to 5-8th grade students
- Instructs students in
- Works cooperatively with administration and staff in planning a balanced physical education program, adapting daily schedules to accommodate weather conditions
- Utilizes a variety of instructional skills and methods; varies instructional modes to accommodate student needs, interests, learning styles, and ability levels; provides individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of students
- Maintains school standards of pupil behavior required to provide an orderly and productive environment, in cooperation with the school administration
- Exhibits appropriate conduct in the handling of student emergencies
- Selects and recommends requisitions for equipment and instructional supplies; instructs students in proper care and use of materials and equipment; organizes storage areas and controls use of materials and equipment to prevent loss or abuse
- Explicitly teaches safe use of equipment and performs safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of students
- Assesses each student's progress in physical fitness skills and knowledge; prepares, documents, and communicates progress to students, parents, and school administration
- Performs basic student attendance accounting and maintains and submits upon request accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulations
- Plans and coordinates the work of aides, teacher assistants, or other paraprofessionals when appropriate
- Attends and participates in staff meetings and district meetings as assigned
- Other duties as assigned by principal

- Flexibility, organization, decision-making, and problem-solving skills
- Strong interpersonal skills; communicates successfully with diverse populations (virtually or in-person)
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously, meet deadlines, and collaborate with colleagues
- Knowledge of district policies on immunization, medication, first aid, emergencies, and child abuse/neglect
- Knowledge of all laws, regulations and guidelines affecting teachers and students
- Ability to maintain positive relationships with students, parents, community members and staff
Based on placement schedule per the negotiated certified staff contract:
PROFESSIONAL NEGOTIATIONS AGREEMENT
Position is full time, 7 hours/day, 180 days per school year
