Post-Closing & Policy Specialist

Barrister Title is looking for an experienced Post-Closing & Policy Specialist to join our team. We're looking for someone who understands that the work doesn't end when everyone leaves the closing table. Recorded documents need to be reviewed, title requirements need to be satisfied, final policies need to be accurate, construction escrow documentation needs to be carefully handled, and every file needs to make it across the finish line.

This is a hands-on position for an experienced title professional who is detail-oriented, organized, comfortable working independently, and genuinely enjoys the paperwork and problem-solving side of the title business. In addition to post-closing and policy responsibilities, this person will assist with construction escrow checks and lien waivers and provide general office support when needed, including helping answer phones and covering the front desk.

If you're someone who likes making sure everything is complete, accurate, and exactly where it belongs, we'd love to meet you.

About

The Role

As our Post-Closing & Policy Specialist, you'll review completed transactions after closing, examine recorded documents and title requirements, prepare final title policies, and identify anything that needs additional attention before a file can be completed. You'll also assist with construction escrow disbursements by preparing checks and reviewing supporting lien waivers and documentation. This position requires someone who understands title—not simply someone who can enter information into a system.

What

You'll Do:
  • Review closed files for completeness and accuracy.
  • Review final recorded deeds, mortgages, releases, and other recorded documents.
  • Confirm recording information and verify documents have been properly recorded.
  • Review title commitments and outstanding requirements before issuing final policies.
  • Prepare accurate final owner and loan title policies.
  • Review endorsements and other applicable policy documentation.
  • Identify missing, incomplete, inaccurate, or contradictory information.
  • Follow up on outstanding post-closing and title requirements.
  • Review deeds, mortgages, easements, judgments, taxes, legal descriptions, and other instruments affecting title.
  • Verify vesting, ownership, and legal descriptions.
  • Identify matters that require additional documentation, correction, or escalation.
  • Maintain accurate and organized electronic files.
  • Prepare construction escrow checks.
  • Review lien waivers and supporting construction escrow documentation.
  • Assist with construction escrow file maintenance and disbursement documentation.
  • Communicate with attorneys, lenders, Realtors, municipalities, and other parties when additional information is needed.
  • Assist with incoming phone calls.
  • Provide front-desk coverage when needed.
  • Support teammates and assist with other title and office responsibilities as needed.
What We're Looking For:

Required:
  • Previous professional title industry experience.
  • Experience reviewing final recorded documents.
  • Experience preparing and issuing final title policies.
  • Strong working knowledge of title commitments and title requirements.
  • Ability to review deeds, mortgages, releases, liens, judgments, easements, taxes, and other title documentation.
  • Understanding of legal descriptions and vesting.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to identify missing or conflicting information and work toward resolution.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple files and priorities independently.
  • Willingness to assist with phones, front-desk coverage, and other office responsibilities as needed.
Strongly Preferred:
  • Soft Pro experience.
  • Construction escrow experience.
  • Experience reviewing lien waivers.
  • Familiarity with recording requirements in Indiana, Cook County, and Illinois collar/outer counties.
  • Experience with both purchase and refinance transactions.
  • Experience preparing owner and loan policies and endorsements.
You'll Thrive Here If You:
  • Actually enjoy paperwork and details.
  • Like completing a file correctly—not just quickly.
  • Catch inconsistencies other people overlook.
  • Understand that a recorded document still needs to be reviewed.
  • Know your way around a title commitment.
  • Take ownership of following up on outstanding items.
  • Enjoy solving problems.
  • Stay organized when you're working with multiple files.
  • Don't mind switching gears when the office needs help.
  • Are comfortable answering a phone or greeting a client when needed.
  • Believe no task is beneath you when it helps the team.
  • Take pride in producing work you can stand behind.
