* Ability to create, write, monitor and facilitate IEPs for students on caseload. Actively participate in IEP meetings for students assigned to the caseload.
* Participate in parent meetings outside of the IEP to support student needs.
* Prepare materials and plan daily instruction appropriate to each assigned class.
* Establish reasonable expectations and keep detailed records for oral and written work and explain grading procedures.
* Maintain desirable discipline standards in the classroom and assist, when needed, in other school areas with student disciplinary management.
* Maintain accurate student records, including attendance.
* Establish and post a schedule of times for helping students who need individual assistance.
* Develop and administer appropriate tests and report performance to parents, dean/counselors, and students.
* Understand and explain special emergency procedures to students and supervise students during situations calling for them.
* Work collaboratively with special education teachers, general education teachers, and Support Team in understanding the needs of students and counseling students. Effectively supervise and include paraprofessionals in supporting the academic and social emotional needs of students.
* Be sensitive to physical and learning styles of students with respect to their identified disabilities.
* Promote student respect for the rights of others in the classroom.
* Attend department meetings
* Work with the Executive Director of Special Education and other staff members in curriculum development.
* Maintain positive professional relations with colleagues.
* Hold high expectations for all students and demonstrate a deep belief that all students can learn and succeed.
* Communicate openly with students, staff, parents, and other stakeholders regarding student's achievement and progress in the classroom.
* Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
* Valid Illinois Professional Educator License with LBS 1 Certification.
* Minimum 3 years' experience in working with students with emotional, behavioral, and academic needs.
* Experience in developing and implementing Individualized Education Plans and Behavior Intervention Plans.
* Knowledgeable about the IDEA and the laws that govern working with students with disabilities.
* Strong verbal and written communication skills: ability to clearly communicate with students, parents, and team members; ability to writing detailed reports and documentation regarding student progress and needs.
* Demonstrated commitment to equity and eliminating systemic obstacles for students of color.

Substitute assignment
Salary: $30 per period for the first 20 days, then $250 per day applied retroactively to the 1st day.
