The Curriculum Coordinator for grades K-8 provides leadership in the development, improvement, and maintenance of the system-wide curriculum and instructional program in support of the district's equity commitments as expressed in Board Policy 7:12:
Ensuring Racial and Educational Equity. This position implements services in the assigned content areas (science, social science, and special areas) under the broad policies of the Board of Education. The Curriculum Coordinator collaborates with District 97 staff to develop curriculum and assessments and incorporate instructional practices to increase student learning and works additional days outside of the school year.
- Work closely with members of the Core Instruction Department in setting and implementing long and short-range goals for curriculum, instruction, and assessment to increase student intellectual engagement.
- Foster cross-functional collaboration between the Teaching and Learning and Student Services departments to support the development and implementation of District and Core Instruction Departmental goals, with a focus on improving adult practices and enhancing student experiences.
- Provide leadership in the development, improvement, and maintenance of the system-wide curriculum and instructional program and services in the assigned content areas (science, social science, and special areas).
- Develop standards-aligned curriculum, design assessments, and collaborate with school administrators, teacher leaders, and teachers to improve instruction and increase student learning.
- Collaborate closely with all district coordinators across content areas to ensure instructional coherence, alignment of district initiatives, and a unified approach to supporting high-quality teaching and learning.
- Facilitate effective team collaboration with a focus on horizontal articulation and vertical articulation.
- Establish a program for the ongoing improvement, supervision, and evaluation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment in content areas, including the evaluation of curricular resources for adoption.
- Conduct regular visitations to all elementary and middle schools and observe teachers in classrooms to provide non-evaluative feedback on the implementation of curricula materials for improved instruction and student intellectual engagement.
- Provide strategies and best practices for teachers to incorporate the Framework for Teaching and Universal Design for Learning into lesson design.
- Provide initial professional learning and follow-up coaching support for school personnel on adopted curricular resources and materials.
- Facilitate or co-facilitate curriculum, instruction, and assessment committees.
