School Psychologist
The School Psychologist is responsible for leading the comprehensive evaluation, identification, and support of students with diverse learning, behavioral, and social-emotional needs. This role ensures the implementation of high-quality, legally compliant assessment practices to determine eligibility for and continued need for special education services, in alignment with federal law, Illinois statutes, and district procedures. The School Psychologist collaborates with multidisciplinary teams to interpret data, inform instructional and intervention decisions, and support the development of individualized education programs (IEPs).
Additionally, this position contributes to the promotion of equitable student outcomes through consultation, problem-solving, and the integration of evidence-based practices that support student growth and well-being. The Psychologist works collaboratively with school staff to meet the needs of students, driving the district's commitment to ensuring racial and educational equity.
Essential duties and responsibilities include assisting in the development, implementation, and oversight of procedures and forms guiding the Individual Education Plan (IEP) process, conducting comprehensive psychological and educational evaluations, analyzing assessment data and linking results to appropriate interventions, participating as an active member of IEP teams, consulting with parents, teachers, administrators, and outside agencies regarding student concerns, conducting functional behavioral assessments and assisting in the development and implementation of positive behavior intervention plans, providing psychological services, individual and group counseling, and social/life skills instruction, providing crisis intervention and behavioral support, coordinating assessment summary report writing, reviewing educational records, screening data, and background information to identify patterns, communicating assessment results and recommendations, collaborating with community agencies and organizations to connect students and families with support services, supporting and guiding staff in the development and management of special education programs and interventions, participating in transition planning for students, monitoring timelines and notifying staff of required reevaluations and IEP review deadlines, and representing the district at meetings as assigned.
Content knowledge, skills, and abilities include knowledge of psychological and educational assessment tools and practices, knowledge of child development and characteristics of students with disabilities, knowledge of current research and evidence-based practices in school psychology, knowledge of family intervention and behavior modification theories and methodologies, knowledge of state and federal laws, rules, and regulations governing education and special education eligibility and services, knowledge of statistics and quantitative analysis, skill in conducting psychological assessment, interpretation, counseling, and report writing, skill in test administration and presentation of results and assessment reporting software, strong oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills, analytical ability to synthesize assessment data and recommend effective instructional strategies and interventions, and ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships within diverse, multicultural, and socioeconomically varied environments while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
Candidate qualifications include a master's degree or higher in school psychology from an accredited college or university, a valid Illinois State Board of Education Professional Educator License with School Psychologist endorsement, experience in an elementary school setting is preferred, and physical requirements include the performance of light work which requires exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently to move objects.
