Role Description This is a part-time, on-site Art Teacher role based in Oak Park, IL. The Art Teacher will plan and engaging art classes for children and/or tweens, demonstrating techniques and guiding students through projects in a supportive, encouraging manner. Daily responsibilities include preparing lesson materials and supplies, setting up and cleaning the Studio, and adapting instruction to different ages and skill levels.
The role also involves communicating with caregivers or guardians as needed, maintaining a safe and inclusive studio environment, and collaborating with Studio staff on class schedules, special events, and student showcases.
Qualifications
- Strong instructional skills in Teaching and Art Education, with the ability to engage diverse learners and manage small groups effectively.
- Experience in Lesson Planning and Curriculum Development, including designing age-appropriate, skills-based, and project-based art activities.
- Proficiency in Painting, and related visual art techniques, with the ability to demonstrate methods clearly and safely. Ceramics and sewing a plus!
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, team mindset and classroom management skills, with a commitment to creating an inclusive, respectful learning environment.
- Prior experience teaching art in a Studio, school, camp, or community setting is preferred.
- Background or degree in Art Education, Fine Arts, Education, or a related field is an asset.
- Ability to work on-site in Oak Park, IL during afternoons, evenings, and/or weekends as needed.
- Willingness to follow all Studio safety, child protection, and operational policies; CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain is beneficial.
