Job Title: Speech Team Assistant Director

Reports to: Director of Student Activities

Terms and Conditions: Part-time, 3-5 hours per week, during the school year.

FLSA Status: Exempt

Salary: Per Faculty Senate contract, level 6 stipend, 1.0 FTE - $2,581.94

Oak Park and River Forest High School, or OPRF, is a comprehensive public high school located in Oak Park, IL, a suburb eight miles due west of downtown Chicago. We are a one‑school district, with the majority of our students coming from two sender districts, River Forest Public Schools District 90 and Oak Park Elementary School District 97. We offer more than 200 courses, a variety of programs for students with special needs, 103 clubs and activities, and 34 competitive sports.

We prepare our students well for post‑secondary success, with an average ACT composite score of 24 and a 96% graduation rate.

Position Summary:

Speech team is an individual activity and students are required to sign up for coaching sessions throughout out the week in order be selected to participate in the Saturday tournaments. Speech team includes fifteen individual events divided into these general areas of Book & Acting events. Competitions are generally on Saturdays.

Individual Events Speech Team is an IHSA interscholastic activity.

Qualifications:

Experience leading or teaching students.

Ability to recruit and maintain diverse membership.

Knowledge/experience with IHSA Speech Tournaments.

Experience with a competitive Speech program and the various events.

Ability to meet sponsor expectations as stated in Student Activities Sponsor Handbook.

Organized and have a positive attitude.

Collaborative.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Collaborate with the other coaches.

Create consistent times throughout the week to coach students on their events.

Oversee students at all meetings and field trips/service opportunities.

Coach and organize students for competitions.

Attend 50% of the competitions.

Attend sponsor meetings and meet expectations given by the Student Activities Director.
