The Village of Oak Park is seeking an individual to join our Parking and Mobility Services division. This is a full‑time position (Monday–Friday, 12:30 pm–8:30 pm). The role involves enforcing village parking regulations and providing general information and assistance to the public.
Union: SEIU. FLSA:
Non‑exempt. Pay Grade: 4.
Hours:
37.5 per week.
To perform a variety of duties and responsibilities involved in the enforcement of Village parking regulations and to provide general information and assistance to the public.
SupervisionReceives general supervision from the Parking Enforcement Supervisor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Knowledge of village parking and related ordinances (desirable).
- Knowledge of the Illinois Motor Vehicle Code as it relates to non‑moving traffic violations.
- Basic record‑keeping principles.
- Safe driving practices.
Ability to:
- Provide best‑in‑class customer service to internal and external customers.
- Learn the geography of the assigned enforcement area.
- Enforce parking and traffic regulations in a firm but tactful manner.
- Work independently in the absence of supervision.
- Learn, understand, and apply pertinent laws, codes, and ordinances.
- Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Drive assigned vehicle safely.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Work overtime as operations require.
- Establish and maintain interpersonal skills to effectively communicate and interact with others.
- Maintain reasonable and predictable attendance.
Maintain physical condition appropriate to the performance of assigned duties, including:
- Sitting for extended periods of time.
- Operating assigned equipment.
Experience and Training Guidelines:
- Experience:
General work experience involving public contact and parking enforcement is desirable. - Training:
High school diploma or equivalency to completion of the twelfth grade. - License or certificate:
Possession of a valid Illinois driver’s license.
Travel from site to site in residential or commercial environments; work in inclement weather conditions.
