Pay Range: $300,000 - $375,000 per year

Rush salaries are determined by many factors including, but not limited to, education, job-related experience and skills, as well as internal equity and industry specific market data. The pay range for each role reflects Rush’s anticipated wage or salary reasonably expected to be offered for the position. Offers may vary depending on the circumstances of each case. Summary

The System Vice President (System VP) of Surgical and Procedural Services is a senior executive responsible for the strategic vision, operational leadership, and financial performance of all inpatient and ambulatory surgical and procedural services across the health system. This scope includes all hospital operating rooms, ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs), catheterization labs, endoscopy suites, interventional radiology, and other invasive procedural areas. As a key leader within an academic healthcare system, the System VP exemplifies the RUSH mission, vision, and values and acts in accordance with RUSH policies and procedures.

This role requires a dynamic leader who can balance standardization and system-wide efficiency with the unique needs of multiple hospital, ambulatory and clinical sites and departments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Demonstrated ability to lead large-scale change, develop strategy, and achieve operational, financial, and quality goals in a complex, matrixed organization.
  • Strong financial acumen with extensive experience in budgeting, financial analysis, and productivity management.
  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare regulations, accreditation standards, and quality improvement methodologies.
  • Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills with the ability to influence and build consensus among diverse stakeholder groups, especially physicians.
  • A proven track record of developing and mentoring leaders and staff.
Responsibilities Strategic Leadership and System Growth
  • Develops and executes a system-wide strategic plan for surgical and procedural services that aligns with the organization's overall goals, focusing on service line growth, market expansion, and technological advancement.
  • Leads business development initiatives, including the evaluation and integration of new ambulatory surgery centers, partnerships, and capital-intensive technologies.
  • Collaborates with marketing and strategy teams to promote the system's surgical and procedural capabilities to referring physicians and the broader community.
  • Continuously assesses and implements innovative care models to enhance service delivery across the continuum of care.
  • Collaborates with strategy teams to identify and model de novo ambulatory surgery center opportunities.
Operational Excellence And Financial Management
  • Directs all operational aspects of surgical and procedural areas to ensure efficiency, optimize capacity, and maximize throughput (e.g., block utilization, turnover times, on-time starts).
  • Establishes and manages system-wide operational and capital budgets, ensuring services meet financial targets through effective resource management, supply chain optimization, and revenue cycle integrity.
  • Develops, implements, and monitors standardized policies, procedures, and performance metrics across all sites to drive consistency and operational excellence.
  • Partners with Information Technology to ensure the effective use of the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and other systems to support efficient and safe patient care across surgical and procedural platforms systemwide.
