Union Refrigeration Technician – JLL

Join our facilities team at Rush as an Union Refrigeration Technician, responsible for maintaining critical climate control and refrigeration systems that directly impact our operations. In this role you will leverage your extensive technical expertise to investigate, diagnose, and resolve complex HVAC and refrigeration system issues across our large-scale facility. Working independently, you will ensure optimal performance of all heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and commercial refrigeration equipment while upholding JLL and Rush's commitment to operational excellence.

This position operates under the International Union of Operating Engineers (IUOE Local 99).

• Diagnose and repair pneumatic, electric, and electronic controls and equipment using proper testing instruments while working from technical drawings and manuals.
• Diagnose and resolve electrical component issues on chillers, rooftop units, fan systems, and other HVAC equipment.
• Maintain and repair commercial refrigeration equipment including refrigerators, freezers, walk‑in cold rooms, and ice machines.
• Rebuild and repair pumps, compressors, and related mechanical components to manufacturer specifications.
• Conduct preventive maintenance inspections and document all service activities, repairs, and system performance.
• Respond to emergency service calls and coordinate with other facility personnel to minimize operational disruptions.
• Ensure all work complies with safety protocols, building codes, and JLL/Rush policies and procedures.

• Minimum 5+ years of hands‑on experience troubleshooting and repairing commercial refrigeration equipment.
• Proven experience maintaining and repairing HVAC systems in large commercial or institutional facilities (≥100,000 sq ft).
• EPA Universal Certification or equivalent refrigeration handling certification.
• Demonstrated proficiency in diagnosing and repairing HVAC electrical components and control systems.
• Proven ability to independently troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues in large facility environments.
• Experience working with pneumatic, electric, and electronic building control systems.
• Strong technical aptitude with the ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and equipment manuals.
• Physical ability to perform required maintenance tasks including lifting, climbing, and working in various environmental conditions.

• Trade school diploma or technical certification in HVAC/Refrigeration technology.
• Experience with Building Automation Systems (BAS) and direct digital controls (DDC).
• Knowledge of healthcare facility operations and regulatory requirements.
• Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
• Additional certifications in specialized HVAC equipment or controls systems.

Work Shift:

Tuesday – Saturday, 6:00AM – 2:00PM

Salary: $47.92 per hour (annual estimate: $99,673.00).
