Job Summary

A Maintenance Technician II oversees the day‑to‑day maintenance operations of assigned properties. The role ensures the upkeep and safety of the property and works closely with the Property Management team to deliver safe, appropriate, and sanitary housing to all residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to caring and positive working and living environments for all employees and residents.
  • Assist in enforcing safety regulations by identifying, reporting, and correcting safety hazards.
  • Perform custodial duties such as cleaning, mopping, emptying trash, and replacing light bulbs as needed.
  • Maintain and repair all aspects of the physical building, outdoor areas, parking areas, and individual units—including electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and other systems.
  • Perform general carpentry duties to prepare apartments for move‑in, including cleaning, painting, repairing, replacing, and/or refinishing surfaces, windows, appliances, window coverings, flooring, etc.
  • Ensure make‑ready units are completed within 3‑5 days after the unit is released to the office.
  • Move common space furniture, supplies, and equipment.
  • Request tools, equipment, and supplies; safely store and safeguard them.
  • Track supplies regularly and order new supplies as needed in coordination with the supervisor.
  • Attend staff meetings and assigned trainings regularly.
  • Enter completed work orders into the software system with all detailed information pertaining to each repair.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Reporting & Organizational Relationships

This position reports directly to the Community Manager and does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Compensation & Classification

The salary range for this position is $24.24 – $28.64 in California and $21.22 – $25.67 outside of California. New hires are typically brought in at the minimum of the range. The role offers a competitive benefits package, including health, dental, vision, and life insurance; an 8% employer contribution to retirement; and other benefits. This is a full‑time, non‑exempt position based at Westlake Christian Terrace East, 251‑28th Street, Oakland, CA 94611.

Physical

Demands

Extensive physical exertion is required. Candidates must be able to walk, bend, climb, manipulate objects, and use hand tools for prolonged periods. Lifting, moving, and carrying items over 50 lbs regularly is necessary. The role also involves sitting, typing, and repetitive computer use for up to 8 hours a day. Qualifications
  • High School diploma or GED preferred.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience as a Maintenance Technician or similar role.
  • Prior experience in apartment maintenance or construction required.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 and Yardi (or similar) preferred; ability to quickly learn the organization’s systems required.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and time‑management skills with a proven ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to serve with integrity, professionalism, and confidentiality.
