The Bay Area Rapid Transit District (BART) is looking for a skilled, dependable, and motivated individual to join its team as a Buildings Worker. This is an exciting opportunity to play a hands‑on role in maintaining and enhancing the infrastructure that keeps one of the nation’s busiest transit systems running smoothly.
As a Buildings Worker, the role will perform a diverse range of maintenance, repair, and construction tasks across BART’s extensive network of facilities. The incumbent work will directly support stations, platforms, administrative buildings, and operational sites—helping ensure a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for both employees and the public.
This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic, field‑based role and enjoys working across multiple building trades. The incumbent will take ownership of assignments from start to finish, applying your technical skills and judgment to assess conditions, troubleshoot issues, and implement effective solutions. The role calls for independence, initiative, and pride in delivering high‑quality workmanship.
The most qualified candidate will demonstrate strong competencies beyond the minimum qualifications, supported by relevant work experience and clearly demonstrated throughout the selection process, including:- Ownership & Accountability
– Demonstrates full ownership of field assignments, managing work from initial assessment through completion with minimal supervision. - Site Assessment & Practical Problem Solving
– Effectively evaluates site conditions and determines efficient, practical approaches to repair and maintenance activities. - Proactive Issue Identification
– Anticipates, identifies, and resolves facility issues early to prevent escalation and minimize impact. - Safety Focus & Risk Awareness
– Consistently prioritizes safety and adheres to protocols while working in active, high‑traffic, or physically demanding environments. - Team Collaboration & Field Coordination
– Works collaboratively with team members, Fore workers, and other trades to ensure efficient and well‑coordinated field operations.
This is a SEIU Local 1021 Bargaining unit position.
As actual vacancies occur, District employees on the internal eligibility list will be considered before external candidates.
