Cleaning Services, Janitor
This position is responsible for daily cleaning and sanitizing of City facilities, including administrative buildings, Police Department, the Oberlin Enrichment & Activity Center and certain park facilities on a seasonal basis. This will include, but not limited to office areas, break rooms and kitchen areas, public spaces, restrooms, Police Department holding cells. The position is also responsible for deep cleaning activities on a less than routine basis.
Responsibilities- Routinely clean and sanitize bathrooms, including but not limited to toilets, sinks, showers, mirrors, floors, and doors
- Routinely clean and sanitize kitchen/breakroom areas, including, but not limited to sinks, appliances, hard surfaces, floors and doors
- Routinely clean and sanitize floors in offices and public spaces by mopping, sweeping, and/or vacuuming
- Routinely clean and sanitize hard surfaces in offices and public spaces (counters, desks, tables, etc.) by dusting, wiping down, and/or scrubbing
- Routinely replace paper products in bathrooms and kitchen areas, as needed
- Routinely empty trash and recycling receptacles in facilities and properly dispose of items in relevant outdoor receptacles
- Clean and sanitize holding cells as determined by the Police Department
- Wash carpeting on a bi-yearly schedule established by the departments
- Clean windows and blinds on an occasional basis, as determined by departments
- Monitor cleaning supply and paper product levels, and notify staff in a timely manner of the need for replacements
- Maintain log of daily cleaning activities, as required
- Performs other duties as may be assigned or required
Requires a high school diploma or GED, and at least two (2) years of previous experience in a similar position, or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the skills and abilities necessary to perform the job. Must be able to successfully pass pre-employment criminal background check and drug screen. Valid state of Ohio driver's license required.
Qualifications- Knowledge of cleaning procedures, equipment and products
- Ability to properly use and maintain cleaning equipment and products
- Ability to perform routine cleaning and sanitation procedures, including dusting, mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, scrubbing, polishing, etc.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, co-workers, other City employees and members of the public
- Ability to multi-task and perform with evolving priorities
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Ability to demonstrate initiative in work environment
- Ability to troubleshoot routine cleaning equipment and determine when external support is required
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and discretion when working in sensitive areas within departments
