Janitorial Services

Keeps recreation center, offices, city facilities, or similar areas in clean and orderly condition by performing general custodial duties.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Clean/disinfect restrooms, replenish supplies, empty trash, sweep and mop all areas. Clean, scrub, and polish floors. Operate and care for floor scrubbing machines, and other janitorial supplies.
• Vacuum, dust, clean windows/doors, clean walls/woodwork. Spot cleans carpets and furniture upholstery. Operate and care for vacuum cleaners and other janitorial supplies.
• Move furniture/equipment and tables/chairs for various functions/events, as needed.
• Keep janitor's closet and other storage areas in neat and orderly condition. Maintain custodial supplies; stock and inventory materials and supplies.
• Keep building in good working order including minor repairs. Reports issues with lighting, HVAC, or other areas through proper chain-of-command.
• Observe, interact with, and be helpful to center participants.
• Maintain outside areas in vicinity of buildings. Empty trash cans and sweep areas immediately outside doorways.
• Provides support for department special events before, during, and after the event in the areas and for functions relative to essential job duties and/or otherwise assigned.

Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• High School Diploma, GED or Equivalent
• Experience in office skills, shop skills, or others and 12 to 18 months related experience and/or training.
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

REQUIRED CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

• Florida Operators Driver's License with an acceptable driving record

Responsibility for funds, property and equipment None. Supervisory responsibilities None. Communication skills Ability to read and understand documents such as policy manuals, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals;
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to questions in person-to-person and small group situations with customers, clients, general public and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to prepare and interpret bar graphs.

Critical thinking skills Ability to use common sense understanding in order to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few known variables in situations of a routine nature.

Supervision received Under general supervision where standard practice enables the employee to proceed alone on routine work, referring all questionable cases to supervisor.
