Position Overview
  • Plant Operator I, II, III, IV:
    Performs general maintenance duties and general support services in all areas of Singing River Health System operations for all non-clinical equipment and facilities. Provides general support services to patients, guests, and staff.
  • Plant Operator V:
    Performs general maintenance duties and general support services in all areas of Singing River Health System operations for all non-clinical equipment and facilities. Provides general support services to patients, guests, and staff. Responsible for training the other Plant Operators.

Education and Certifications
  • Education:

    High School graduate or equivalent is required.
  • License: N/A
  • Certifications:

    Certification preferred for electricians, HVAC technicians, and plumbers.
Experience Requirements
  • Plant Operator I: 0–2 years of experience in commercial or industrial electrical, HVAC, boilers, chillers, plumbing or piping, or Life Safety Code.
  • Plant Operator II: 2–4 years of experience in commercial or industrial electrical, HVAC, boilers, chillers, plumbing or piping, or Life Safety Code, plus at least two years as a Plant Operator I.
  • Plant Operator III: 4–6 years of experience in commercial or industrial electrical, HVAC, boilers, chillers, plumbing or piping, or Life Safety Code, plus at least three years as a Plant Operator II.
  • Plant Operator IV: 6+ years of experience in commercial or industrial electrical, HVAC, boilers, chillers, plumbing or piping, or Life Safety Code, plus at least three years as a Plant Operator III.
  • Plant Operator V: 6+ years of experience in commercial or industrial electrical, HVAC, boilers, chillers, plumbing or piping, or Life Safety Code, plus a minimum of one year as a Plant Operator IV.
Reporting and Supervision
  • Reports to:

    Facilities Support Manager.
  • Supervises:
    Plant Operator I, II, III, IV:
    None;
    Plant Operator V:
    All Plant Operators.
Physical Demands
  • Stands, turns, bends, stoops, lifts, climbs, and uses many physical motions daily.
  • Requires moderate to high physical agility and strength, including ascending/descending ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps, and moving equipment.
  • Must lift up to 50 pounds without assistance; dexterous use of wrists, hands, and fingers.
  • Must stand for extended periods and walk significant distances.
  • May be exposed to communicable disease, radiation, or environmental conditions outside the facility.
  • Must have adequate hearing, vision (with or without correction), and sensory acuity for tasks such as identifying colors and depth perception.
Mental Demands
  • Requires keen mental faculties, assessment, and decision‑making abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including clear speaking and enunciation in person and via telephone.
  • Must manage high stress, work under pressure, meet deadlines, and maintain attention to detail while multitasking.
Special Demands
  • Superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.
  • Basic computer skills for Plant Operator I; advanced computer and programming skills (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for Plant Operators II, III, IV, V.
  • Must be keyboard proficient and familiar with telephone, fax, and office technology.
  • Must have general knowledge of hand tools, gauges, tape measure, and related equipment.
  • Travel throughout the SRHS service area; must provide own transportation and possess a valid driver license.
  • Travel may require rotating shifts as scheduled by the Manager.
  • Completion of online SRHS safety modules is required.
