THE ROLE
O'Fallon Township High School District #203 is looking for a dependable, hardworking Custodian to help keep our schools clean, safe, and welcoming for thousands of students and staff every day. You will take ownership of your building, maintaining a sanitary and attractive environment, setting up events, responding to issues as they arise, and making sure things are secure at the end of the day.
This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the Board of Education and the Service Worker Council of the O'Fallon Federation of Teachers. You'll report to the Director of Facilities.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
Your responsibilities will span four core areas:
- Cleaning & Sanitation:
Cleaning and maintaining classrooms, offices, restrooms, gyms, common areas, and grounds to keep facilities sanitary, safe, and presentable - Event & Room Setup:
Setting up and breaking down furniture and equipment for meetings, events, and classroom activities; moving furniture and boxes as needed - Facility Care & Minor Repairs:
Inspecting facilities for damage or unsafe conditions; performing minor repairs to furniture and equipment such as faucets, toilets, and light fixtures; painting interior and exterior areas; adjusting climate controls; assisting with snow removal - Safety, Security & Support:
Locking and unlocking buildings, securing facilities and grounds, receiving deliveries, picking up and delivering mail and supplies, driving district vehicles, and supporting maintenance, grounds, and security staff as needed
KEY QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for someone who takes pride in their environment and understands that a clean, well-maintained school makes a real difference for students and staff. You should be comfortable operating electrical cleaning equipment and common tools, able to follow multi-step instructions, and ready to work independently in a busy school setting.
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent and a valid driver's license
- Ability to operate equipment used for school maintenance, including electrical cleaning equipment and common tools
- Ability to understand and follow multi-step oral and written instructions
- Ability to read and comply with Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and product labels
- Basic math skills, including fractions, percentages, and ratios
- Ability to complete computerized online training
- No criminal violations that would prohibit public school employment
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, students, and the public
- Frequent lifting up to 50 lbs.; occasional lifting over 100 lbs.
- Standing, walking, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions; occasional exposure to chemicals, fumes, and noise
- Some positions may include weekend or rotating shifts and 24-hour on-call availability
- $17.50/hr. school year), per the Service Workers CBA
