Under the direction of the Assistant Airport Director and the Airport Director, the Crew Leader in the Airport Division plans, coordinates, oversees, and participates in the maintenance, repair, inspection, and operational readiness of airport facilities, infrastructure, vehicles, equipment, and airfield systems. This position is responsible for ensuring airport assets are maintained in a safe, reliable, and serviceable condition to support the continuous operation of a federally obligated, FAA Part 139 certificated commercial service airport.
This position oversees airport/airfield facility maintenance activities, including the airport pavement maintenance programs, airfield lighting systems, signage, markings, buildings, grounds, utilities, fleet equipment, snow removal, asset management systems, and other airport infrastructure. The position supports compliance with FAA, TSA, environmental concerns, risk management, and City policy requirements to maximize infrastructure life cycle.
This position oversees airport maintenance personnel, contractors, consultants, and regulatory agencies as directed. The employee participates in airport emergency operations, snow and ice control activities, construction coordination, and after-hours response to operational, safety, security, and maintenance-related incidents. Work requires independent judgment, technical expertise, and the ability to prioritize multiple operational needs while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations, standards, and airport policies.
Plans, coordinates, and participates in the maintenance, repair, inspection, and operational readiness of airport pavements, lighting systems, signage, markings, buildings, grounds, utilities, fleet vehicles, equipment, and other airport infrastructure.
Develops, implements, and administers preventative maintenance programs, asset management systems, and work order processes to maximize infrastructure life cycle, improve reliability, and protect the Airport's investment in facilities and equipment.
Supports compliance with FAA Part 139 requirements by conducting inspections, correcting deficiencies, maintaining records, and ensuring airport facilities and infrastructure remain in a safe and operational condition.
Performs inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and basic repair of airfield lighting systems, guidance signs, navigational aids, electrical infrastructure, regulators, vault equipment, and associated airport systems.
Identifies Airport electrical system deficiencies, outages, and operational concerns and takes appropriate corrective action within the scope of training and authority.
Coordinates with licensed electricians, specialized contractors, engineers, manufacturers, and regulatory agencies as necessary to diagnose, repair, restore, or upgrade complex electrical systems and infrastructure beyond the scope of routine maintenance.
Performs inspection, maintenance, repair, and preservation of airport pavements, pavement markings, crack sealing, drainage systems, fencing, and related airport infrastructure. Identifies deficiencies, deterioration, safety concerns, and operational impacts and implements appropriate corrective actions within the scope of available resources and authority.
Coordinates with Assistant Airport Director as necessary to evaluate, design, repair, rehabilitate, or replace infrastructure systems beyond the scope of routine maintenance.
Oversight of large, contracted projects resulting in operational impact for the Airport Divisions.
Consistent feedback and updates from contracted work to both the Airport Assistant Director and the Airport Director on project status, compliance standards, and foreseeable concerns with any operational projects assigned. Ensuring pre-approved established timelines and that FAA requirements will be met.
